Two years ago, Saba Saralidze’s mom accidentally discovered that her son was losing his sight. While on a bus, she pointed out the station names on the monitor, but Saba couldn’t see them. He thought that seeing blurry outlines of people and objects—like looking through a frosted glass—was normal. Keratoconus is a treacherous disease, gradually taking away vision. Saba’s condition was dire: he had only 5% vision in his right eye and 30% in his left one! Precious time had been wasted—no Georgian clinic was able to help him. The family’s despair grew, and it was at this moment that they turned to the Chernovetskyi Fund. We’re thrilled to share some great news! Thanks to the efforts of the Fund and its friends, Saba underwent surgery on his right eye in Turkey, and now there’s a chance that his vision will be restored! No Georgian clinic could help Saba, but with the support of the Chernovetskyi Fund, he was successfully operated on in Turkey. Over the next year, his vision should improve from 5% to 70%.

0901200270The doctors told me that soon I will wake up in complete darkness! Oh God, will I never be able to see my beloved mother’s face, my peers, and the beauty of the Georgian land that surrounds me?!
REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!
The first thing Saba does when he wakes up is turn on the light and look at his hands. “Today,” he says, flashing a charming smile to avoid upsetting both me, the reporter, and his beloved mother, “I was very lucky; I woke up with my sight. Thirty percent – that’s how much vision I have in one eye. I can see my hands, which means there isn’t a happier boy in the whole world! I wash up and snuggle up to my mom! What a beautiful face she has! And such warm, loving hands!”
“Then I eagerly wait for hugs from my brother and sisters!
I feel so sorry for them. Because my mom’s last money goes to my treatment
“But the faces in white coats and their terrifying words immediately come to mind—that it won’t last long! If I don’t get a cornea transplant, I will become completely blind!” It’s so scary!!! Because that means that for the rest of his days, Saba will only see darkness!
Saba (14 years old): “This is roughly how I see the world today when I go outside. Isn’t it still beautiful? I’m only 14, and my vision is gradually fading away. Mom says that according to medical records, he has only 5 % vision in one eye and 30 % in the other, but to put it in simple terms, it means I can’t clearly see the faces of my mom and my siblings. “I can’t make out their kind smiles, especially my mom’s! And that’s the most important thing in the world to me!”
His mother, with trembling hands, embraces him. Saba feels her warmth and senses how she holds back her tears, and her voice trembles betraying her emotions. And Saba, not wanting to upset his mother more, keeps smiling and joking…
Manana (Saba’s mom): Saba, my dear, we will find a way. We will cetainly figure something out. The Chernovetskyi Fund has come to us, and together we will find a solution!
Saba nods and tries to smile with his charming smile, but I, the correspondent, see that he can hardly believe that. He is afraid of what lies ahead. Afraid of the darkness that has become his constant companion. But even more, he fears for his mother, for not being able to see her and be her support.
Manana: Our family is socially disadvantaged. We’ve sold everything we could, but continued visiting Georgian doctors, and even had one surgery done! But it only brought my boy more pain – both emotional and physical.
But now… God is great! We’ve found a doctor in Turkey who guarantees a corneal transplant for my child and the restoration of most of his vision for $15,000! Can you imagine? Saba will be able to see again! He is such a smart boy! And his smile is incredible! The whole country will love him! And he will be able to repay his country with his service, no matter who he becomes, for he is an extraordinary person!
Saba: “I hear my parents discussing this late in the evening, thinking I am already asleep. I hear the desperation in their voices, and it really hurts me!”
Saba: I remember the days when I could see. I remember running around the yard and going to school.
Barbare (8-year-old): I remember someone promised to buy me a bicycle, but then they couldn’t.
Anita (5-year-old): And they didn’t buy me one either…
– Manana, besides Saba, you have three other children. Tell us about them.
Manana: Barbare is 8-year-old and Anita is 5. Giorgi is already a grown boy. He dreams of growing up quickly to help the family. We barely make ends meet. “Because of my son’s illness the girls are deprived of everything.”
– And what do you live on?
Manana: Our family’s income is only social allowance. Fortunately, we don’t have to pay rent. The state pays for it it. But we can’t raise $15,000 in several lifetimes. My hands are tied. I feel guilty towards my children, especially Saba.
Barbare: And I want to become president and give money to all poor children so they can buy whatever they need. I would give Saba money for his surgery. And I would buy myself a bicycle and a tablet.
– Manana, you can address our readers. Together, all of Georgia can help save Saba’s sight.
Manana: I was so embarrassed to write to you! But you convinced me that the Fund is supported by hundreds of thousands of compassionate people in Georgia! Still, please forgive me! I have made a decision. I can no longer sit idly by. I must try to do everything possible to save my son. I dared to write you a letter.
– At our Fund, we know many stories where people lose faith! Thank God you’re not one of them! God will help you, especially since I’m here! What words would you like to hear most from the doctors in Turkey?
Manana: I’m sorry for my tears, they make it hard to say everything that’s in my heart. It’s just a dream… I keep dreaming more and more often that a gray-haired, kind doctor comes out of the room where my son is, takes off his surgical gloves, wipes the sweat from his forehead, and says: “The surgery was successful. Your son will see the world! It’s all behind us now!” God, let me live to see that day!
REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!
Before you is the story of a 14-year-old boy named Saba, who, despite his young age, is already facing the terrifying prospect of complete blindness. Every day for him starts with a check: can he see at least something today? Doctors warn that without an urgent corneal transplant, he could lose his sight forever. Imagine what it’s like to wake up every morning in fear that today might be the day when the light disappears completely. Saba sees the world through a hazy mist, unable to make out his mother’s face, unable to enjoy children’s games and the simple joys of life.
Dear friends, let your help become a light for Saba in this dark period of his life. Let’s make his world filled with colors again, and his heart with joy and hope.
Remember the words of Jesus: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”(Matthew 5:8).
Let’s join efforts for a noble goal and help Saba regain his vision!

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO THE WORK OF MERCY!
Saba’s mom, Manana: “Without the Fund, I wouldn’t have been able to do anything on my own. Thank you for your swift support.”
– Saba, how are you feeling after the surgery? Any changes yet?
Saba: I’m no longer afraid. Before, I was scared to fall asleep and wake up, terrified that I might wake up in total darkness. The stitches will be removed in a year, and the doctor said my vision in the right eye should gradually improve during this time. My mood is great—I feel at peace!
Manana: His vision should go from 5% to 70%. We’re just at the start of this recovery journey. Lord, help us so everything turns out well! We’re holding onto hope. Of course, we’d all love for Saba to see clearly right away, but with eye surgeries, the results come gradually.
Over the next year, his vision should improve from 5% to 70%.
– Where was the surgery done, and what exactly was performed? Please let the Fund’s friends know.
Manana: Saba was operated on in Adana, Turkey. His condition was so advanced that a corneal transplant was needed. The surgery lasted three hours. The doctor was happy with the initial results—everything is going well so far. Full recovery of the cornea will take a year, so we’re in the rehabilitation phase.
Until recently, every morning, I would wake Saba in a panic to check if he had lost his sight. It was a nightmare I wouldn’t wish on anyone! The whole family was on edge, worrying for Saba. And he suffered too.
If it weren’t for the Chernovetskyi Fund and its friends, who raised the necessary funds and pushed for help from the Ministry of Health, I couldn’t have done it alone. Before reaching out to the Fund, I went to many organizations for help but lost precious time that we didn’t have!
In the end, the state allocated funds just in time, and the Fund’s friends supported us in every way. That’s how we made it to Turkey!”
Saba’s mom, Manana: “We’re in the rehabilitation process, and everything is going according to the doctor’s plan so far.
I want to take a moment to thank the Fund’s friends from the bottom of my heart! You gave me the strength to act and not just sit idly by. Your energy and support have made me believe in a positive outcome for Saba. Now, it’s all up to his body and God’s will.
– We too, hear me Saba, we’re all keeping our fingers crossed for you.
Saba: I’m wearing a lens now, and it helps. I can see your face, and I can tell you’re smiling.
Saba: “The fear and panic are gone. I’m trying to live a normal life and even go outside.”
Manana: While Saba was struggling with his vision and wasn’t moving around much, he gained 15 kilograms. He needs to lose extra weight now. He’s also taken an academic year off from school because he can’t strain his eyes or read. Health comes first.
I wish for the Fund’s dear friends to never have to fight for health. May you and your loved ones always be healthy and well! Thank you for your timely and effective help and for giving us hope in a difficult situation.
Even my mother-in-law, Dodo, who was gravely ill, worried about Saba. She lived to witness our trip to Turkey for the surgery and passed away with peace in her heart. In her final days, she blessed and thanked everyone who helped save Saba.
Saba’s sisters, Anita and Barbare: “Thank you to the Chernovetskyi Fund for helping our brother! We love you so much!”
Anita (sister): Saba is the most important person in our house. We all treat him like a prince and take care of him. But guess what? The Fund’s friends remembered me too! They found out I wanted some pretty clothes and took me shopping with mom. I tried on so many things and brought the prettiest ones home!
– That’s wonderful, Anita! We’re glad your wish came true! Manana, how can the Fund’s friends help now?
Manana: We’re still in the rehabilitation phase, and Saba will need to travel to Turkey for follow-up checkups. The next visit is scheduled for December. Travel and accommodation come with significant expenses. I’m asking for help with this because we’re a large family, and we’d have to sacrifice even the most basic needs to save up for Saba’s trips.
Dear friends, thank you for helping us address Saba’s urgent problem. The surgery has been done, but it’s crucial for him to have regular checkups and consultations with his doctor. The Saralidze family deeply hopes for your ongoing support. Together, we can help Saba fully recover step by step!
