Look at this little angel, how beautiful she is. Her eyes are so deep, so full of expression… Just one glance into Anna-Maria’s eyes, is enough to feel that her little heart is full of kindness. Yet a cruel fate threatens to stop this kind heart beating orever. We can’t let that happen! No! Kind people, besides the fact that Anna-Maria’s surgery couldn’t be planned due to financial hardship, her mother now faces another big problem. There’s no one to stay with the child while she goes to the clinic to collect the documents needed for her surgery. If you’re reading this, and you’re a nursing student, a medical student, or simply someone with a compassionate heart, please consider giving Anna-Maria just a few hours of your time. How can Anna-Maria’s little heart bear so much pain?
Even a stone would weep at the suffering of this angel.
Fourteen-year-old Anna-Maria was born with cerebral palsy. She cannot walk or talk. She’s endured 14 years of what can only be described as hell. But fate—cruel, unjust fate—wasn’t finished. Recently, a blood clot formed in Anna-Maria’s leg, leading to necrosis. Her leg began to decay, causing unimaginable pain.
The sight of Anna-Maria’s leg after the clot.
You might think it’s an image from a horror movie, of someone who’s been burned alive. Sadly, this isn’t a film. This is reality—and it’s even sadder that this is the leg of a little angel, ravaged by a cruel disease. Blackness and rot crept upward from her ankle, it was an unstoppable nightmare. Her leg had to be fully amputated below the ankle.
Every day, her poor mother has to dress the amputated leg with alcohol.
There Anna-Maria lies, on her bed with her amputated leg, her eyes silently pleading for help. The shadow of death is ever-present, hovering over her. After her surgery, she developed sepsis and had to undergo yet another operation.
Lord, protect this little angel who came to this world!
Do you know why her legs look like that? One might think that this bedridden girl’s legs are tired of lying in bed, and that’s why she lifts them. Unfortunately, you would be mistaken. Due to this cruel disease, her condition has worsened, and the girl can no longer straighten her legs. Can you imagine what this child endures? No, it’s beyond imagination.
She suffers, and her mother suffers just as deeply.
She cannot eat solid food; even porridge is barely digestible for her.
This woman is Anna-Maria’s mom She is only 43, but 14 of those years have been spent in pure torment. There is no greater hell for a mother than watching her child suffer with no way to help. At times like this, a mother doesn’t cry only with her eyes; she cries with her heart and soul. Get your handkerchiefs ready, dear readers, because what I’m about to tell you will make you cry bitter tears. A few days ago, this unfortunate mother went to a surgeon to schedule the next operation. Her daughter urgently needs a third surgery because a bone is now piercing through her flesh and needs to be amputated. The pre-surgery procedures cost 60 lari, and she could only find 45 in her wallet. She was speechless with despair and sank into a corner of the hospital chapel, by the icons, unable to say a word. Her child’s life is at risk just because of 15 lari. Can you believe that?
Because of the lack of those damn 15 lari, they couldn’t schedule the child’s surgery. My God, is this really happening? Could it really be that the time of the “second coming” is near?
This is Anna-Maria’s father. Four years ago, this young man died from a heart attack. His heart couldn’t bear watching his daughter’s suffering, and one day it stopped beating forever. He left this world, carrying the sorrow for his angelic daughter to his grave. Oh God, oh God, what misfortune has befallen the Kozmanashvili family!
This terrible wound on Anna-Maria’s leg came from the operation to remove the clot. Because of her illness, she also has severe hormonal issues, causing excessive hair growth on her body.
She needs at least five diapers daily. Her mother can’t afford even this most basic item. Anna-Maria also needs five ostomy filters each day. Anna-Maria also needs five ostomy filters each day. What is her poor mother to do with the few coins she manages to save? Should she buy her child food, diapers, or the medical supplies she needs?
Ketevan, 43, says, “There’s no word in any language to describe the suffering of my little girl. Do you know what one of my relatives told me? ‘Give her up.’ Those words pierced my heart like a dagger. If everyone leaves me, if I’m utterly alone in this world with my poor girl, I would rather die than leave her. I can’t live without her. But I still believe in kindness. I believe that, here in Georgia, there are many good people who will understand Anna-Maria’s pain and reach out to us. The bone protruding from her leg cuts into her flesh so much that she can’t even sleep. Her leg is beginning to rot again, and without immediate surgery, I fear what might happen… Oh! No! I can’t even say it. We’re renting this house, and I pay 400 lari a month, I gather this money through suffering. But as long as my girl gets better, I would sleep in the open air if I had to. I’d give my life without hesitation if it would ease her suffering. If she needed a heart transplant, I’d give her mine in an instant. But her illness is beyond me…”
This poor woman sometimes doesn’t have enough money even for vegetables or potatoes to make soup.
Anna-Maria looks at her mother with pleading eyes, silently asking for help.
