They live in desperate poverty, any second at the risk of being buried under the ruins of their own home…
It was a distressing picture to see even for the worldly-wise Fund employees. We just shuddered when we saw this little doll with huge beautiful eyes in desperate poverty, a dilapidated house, with a collapsed wall… And Nini, kept frolicking without noticing it: “Look what a puppy I have! Isn’t it wonderful?”

A kindest 52-year-old Georgian grandmother, forgetting about herself, about the terrible pains in her chest and heart,  gives the remaining energy, as well as the last crumb of bread, to her dear granddaughter asking God to let her stay alive a little longer!

Nino herself is starving. Usually, she goes to bed hungry … And we are witnesses of this!

“I don’t want anything, if only my girl, my little Nini, were healthy and happy,” the poor woman cries bitterly. – I live for her! I will do anything, so that the child does not have to endure hardships … You see, I often just have nothing to feed her! “

– Nino, tell me please, what problem brought you to us?

Nino: I don’t even know where to start … Our situation is really terrible, otherwise I would not have addressed you. It happens so that I have been raising my three-year-old granddaughter Nini alone. Money is sorely lacking, even for food. I often go to bed hungry, if only my baby was full …

– Can you tell us in more detail how it happened?

Nino: Nini’s parents divorced before her birth. It happened so. Human heart is a mystery. They did not understand each other. My daughter Ani was pregnant, but her husband was against of having children. So he left Ani with a baby in her arms. She is a very sensible girl, an athlete. She was professionally engaged in freestyle wrestling. They even invited her to India as a coach, promised to pay her a good salary. And she left, what else could she do? Baby Nini was only one-and-half months old then. At the beginning, she did send us money, then something went wrong there, and she came back. But she had to keep the child somehow – I don’t work, because of my age and my health condition … Here, in the village, there is no work. Ani left for Tbilisi and has been sticking around ever since, poor one, working sometimes as a waitress, sometimes as a saleswoman in a grocery store. She’s on minimum wage, and she still has to pay for a rented room and buy something to eat.

– Why wouldn’t you go there too?

Nino: Oh, what are you talking about! – the woman threw up her hands – you should have seen this kennel where she lives! A tiny room, no conditions, not even heating! How can you keep a child there? There is at least fresh air here.

– You mentioned some health issues. Are you sick, Nino?

Nino: Two years ago, I was diagnosed with a malignant tumor of the breast, the second stage. I underwent radiation and chemotherapy, and they amputated my breast. They barely managed to save my life. But now I have female problems. I will need to be operated on once again soon…

– Do you need any help with treatment?

Nino: No, it’s financed by state. I have already applied and I’m on a waiting list now. I addressed you because my baby, my Nini, lives in such conditions, in these ruins. And sometimes I just have nothing to feed her. If not for the extreme need, I would never have bothered you …

– Does anybody help you? Do you have relatives?

Nino: My husband passed away a long time ago, and I used to sell some small stuff at the bus station. I have two sisters, but they have their own families. How can they help us? Their life is hard too… They can only help with some food from time to time. I have also another daughter, the eldest one, who has four children! You understand that in a hard time like now it becomes very difficult not only to help other people, but even to stay alive yourself.

– Have you ever thought that you would find yourself in such situation?

Nino: Who can imagine such a thing? We used to have just an ordinary family. The eldest daughter got married, gave birth to four children … I thought that the same would happen to the youngest… But everything turned out in a different way. Your heart breaks when you see that your child’s life does not go well, that she suffers … Well, what can you do, everything is God’s will. I have my baby, my miracle, my Nini. A ray of sun in the darkness… I have a dear person to live for.

– We are so sorry! Did you address anybody for help? The local government, for instance?

Nino: The state has financed my treatment, and we also get an allowance of 150 GEL… To be honest, only a half of this amount, because we had to take money in advance for medications and other unforeseen expenses. I addressed the local government, asking them to repair my house, at least the roof, but they refused.

– Is this all your income? But how do you live?

Nino: We exist… We survive… My daughter sends us some money, or rather, her entire salary minus the rent and the expenses for the food and transportation. But her salary is only 500 GEL. You can see yourself what remains after she pays 100 GEL for her tiny room …

– What does the baby eat?

Nino: Mainly soups, just water-based, of course. Fortunately, they know me in the grocery shop, so that they loan me some stuff, and I pay for it bit by bit … But it seems this debt will never end.

– Do you believe in the kindness of strangers?

Nino: I do. Mrs. Marine, the wife of a local deputy, brought me a huge package of groceries when I was operated on, … I cried with joy, and surprise … The Lord always gives you help when it seems everything goes wrong.

– Are you religious?

Nino: Yes, of course! I believe that everything in this world happens for a reason. We are all children of the Lord, He loves all of us and hears our prayers. I go to church and pray at home too …

– Nino, does this house belong to you?

Nino: Yes, if you can call these ruins a house. It requires a major overhaul. One wall has completely collapsed, the roof leaks, the wind is blowing from all cracks … I am afraid that one day it will just collapse upon our heads.

– What, do you think, you need most in your home?

Nino: First of all, of course, food for my little Nini.  There can be no question of good nutrition with our income. But she is growing up, she needs vitamins. It is very difficult to heat our little room in winter. Look in what condition the walls are! We really need a gas heater and a washing machine. With my illness, it is almost impossible for me to wash by hands … It would be nice to have a refrigerator … There is even no room to store the soup, I have to cook it for one meal only, otherwise it will turn sour … There is nothing to sleep on … There is a couch and a broken wooden bed. Our friend gave it to us. I feel so awkward to ask for help. The Lord know that I addressed you only for the sake of the child!

– How did you learn about our Fund?

Nino: Good people told me about you. They said that you really help those who found themselves in a dire situation… They advised me to address you. Your Fund has so many good friends! I wrote to you in the hope that they will not remain indifferent to our trouble…

– Nino, tell me, please, about your grandchild.

Nino: My little angel … Mother named her after me. My joy, my ray of sunshine! She goes to the kindergarten, she really likes it there. She says it’s fun, there are a lot of children and toys. I can’t even afford to buy her a doll … (He sighs heavily.) She likes to listen to music, watch clips on YouTube. She dances and sings along. She’s just a miracle!

– Can I talk to her, please?

Nino: You know, she still speaks poorly, incoherently, distorts words, but, of course, you can ask her questions if you want.

– Nini, what is that? Is it your dog?

Nini (3-year-old): It’s my friend!

– What’s its name?

Nini: Bubu! He’s the best!

– Nini, what do you like most of all?

Nini: Sweets! I want many, many sweets!

– Chocolate?

Nini: Yes, I love chocolate! But granny doesn’t buy it…

– What are you dreaming about? What do you want most of all?

Nini: Many, many toys! As in my kindergarten. I like dolls and balls! I like to play ball.

– How little a child needs to be happy … Dolls, sweets and a ball … And what are you dreaming about, Nino?

Nino: I pray to the Lord asking to give me health and strength to put my baby on her feet. She is the meaning of my life. I look into the future through her eyes. When she runs up to me, she says: “Granny, I love you very, very much, like that!” – and she hugs me with her little arms with all her might, I forget about all illnesses and adversities … I will give everything to see her grown up, healthy and happy!

One call saves life – 0901 200 270.

Your support inspired us!

“Granny, granny! They came to visit us again! ” Nini, a wonderful little beauty with huge eyes, runs out to meet us, followed by her grandmother Nino. “Your Fund has exceeded all our expectations and made our dreams come true!” – she starts to thank us from the very doorway.

Friends, not long ago, in our post named: “A beautiful three-year-old orphan has only a grandmother suffering from cancer, and, instead of toys, a poor little white puppy picked up in the street” we told you the sad story of a wonderful little girl Nini.

https://chernovetskyifund.ge/en/projects/648-nazarashvili/

You, our kind and responsive readers, of course, could not remain indifferent and pass by the misfortune of this little girl living in the ruins with her grandmother, who is seriously ill!

“Many people who called us not only helped us but also cheered us up with their words. With these vibes you want to be active, to live, to defeat your illness. This inspires you! I don’t know how to thank you!” – Mrs. Nino can’t hide her emotions; Joy and gratitude overwhelm her. – “May God grant you with health and prosperity, may He save you from all hardships!”

It was your generosity and responsiveness that brought back the joy and taste for life to these people! Little Nina has three times more toys than she asked for, and her grandmother never tires of blessing you for your help and support!

Little Nini can’t fit all of her toys in her arms, but she still wants to show us everything at once. She can’t get on her scooter with a doll and a bag in her arms. But the baby tries again and again.

– Nini, what cool toys you have! Will you let me play?

– Ma’am, look up there! There is a lot of toys!

– On the top of a wardrobe? Well, I see! You’ve got a supply of toys!

– Ma’am, take it! Let’s play.

Grandma Nino Sr. smiles: “I’ve put it there. They brought her so many toys, that my granddaughter got lost, which toy to play with. So I told her: “Come on, dear, let’s play with these dolls today, and leave the other ones for tomorrow. You’ve changed our life dramatically, you brought us so much joy! God, Himself directed me when I wrote to your Fund.”

The story of a 3-year-old girl Nini with a white homeless puppy in her arms, and her grandmother, a cancer patient who raises her, shocked our readers to the core. Such an angel lives in a dilapidated house together with her grandmother, whose health condition keeps getting worse every day. Everybody who was able to do so joined the rescue campaign immediately.

 – Mrs. Nino, what did you feel when people started calling and visiting you? Tell me about your new friends.

Nino: How can I express this with words? I’m very excited. I used to address other organizations for help, but I only saw indifference and even condemnation there. “We would have helped you if the child did not have a mother at all or she did not remember her.” – that’s what I heard once… I got so upset then, I don’t even want to remember that.

But you supported us truly and sincerely. I will never forget that.

Many people have responded. I will not list all the names by heart, so as not to be mistaken. But I am immensely grateful to everyone! I will pray for all good people. May God give you health and prosperity, may he save you from all hardships.

They brought clothes for the child, food, toys, they gave us money. Sometimes they sent us gifts, sometimes they came personally.

We met one family. They came to visit us all together – a husband, a wife, and their children. The woman’s name is Alla, she speaks Russian and English fluently. They helped my daughter Ani, Nini’s mother, to get a job. My daughter lost her job due to the pandemic. With the recommendation of these kind people, Ani started working at a dog shelter. I was really touched when our new friends arranged Ani’s birthday celebration (on December 9th); with real birthday a cake. When all these come from the heart, it makes you feel so warm!

“Toy Shop Disney” handed us over three huge bags of toys. “Arni” insurance company employees brought us a lot of sweets and food.

Another family brought a scooter for little Nini. I guess their child is about two years older than Nini. It was so much fun that evening, when my granddaughter rode the scooter back and forth around the room shouting: “Granny, look, I’m coming to you!” She had a lot of fun and after that she caught z’s. She still keeps moving around our home by her scooter. It’s not convenient to ride it in our yard – there are bumps everywhere. And I don’t let her go outside, and I don’t go outside either – I’m very much afraid of the Coronavirus.

They provided us with food for about two months. Complete strangers came with bags full of food. We have nothing to worry about this winter – we have potatoes, onions, flour, rice, buckwheat, pasta, noodles, oats.

There are also enough sweets. Nini eats them first of all. So, I give her sweets little by little and keep the storage place secret. (Smiles.) Although, it is difficult to hide something from her, she wants to know everything and to participate in everything. “Me, me, me!” She especially likes to unpack gift boxes. She opens the box immediately and, starts examining what’s inside.

– Do you like your new bed?

Nino: Oh, yes! My fidget was so impressed that she immediately started to jump on it. She felt happy jumping on the springing mattress. “Grandma, come on and jump with me too!” “How can I do that, dear?” – I answered her – “We’ve finally got a normal bed, and we must take care of it.” She obeyed and stopped jumping. This bed has a magical effect. I used to put Nini to sleep at a daytime, but not always successfully. And now when she plays enough and gets tired, she goes and lies down herself. Now she regularly has daytime naps. I am so happy!

At 9-10 o’clock in the evening we go to bed. I get tired quickly, my illness reminds us of itself, no matter how much I want to forget about it. The baby clings to me, I tell her some tales, give her something to drink, and she falls asleep.

She helped me to unpack new blankets, pillows, and then she luxuriated on them. It is so important to please a child’s heart this way! You are doing a great job. I bless your Fund and its founder. You know, sometimes I can hardly believe that it happened to us, that so many wishes and dreams came true at once.

Thanks to the Fund, we have finally got a refrigerator! You have no idea how I suffered without it, especially in summer – any meal was getting spoiled in a couple of hours because of the heat. Now I have place to store food.

The washing machine you gave me became my best helper. The only thing left for me to do is to hang the laundry. I have no strength at all to wash and wring out the laundry by hand. My back pain prevents me from moving normally, from doing the housework. I am unable to do anything without taking painkiller in the morning or in the afternoon. I am waiting for the approval for my second surgery – gynecological. I have applied for it, but I am still waiting for financing. Apparently, all the scheduled operations have been postponed due to the pandemic.

When a handyman installed the washing machine, and started the first test wash, Nini sat down in front of it watching as if it was a TV. (Laughs.) She is curious about everything: how the laundry spins in the window, how the machine hums. I always tell her: “Look, dear, don’t bring your fingers close to the window, it’s dangerous.“

She likes to open the refrigerator – she’s fond of the light inside it. (Smiles.)

– Mrs. Nino, we are happy that now you have less problems in your everyday life, that your life has become easier. Was there any feedback from the local authorities? Did they react to our post in any manner?

Nino:(She sighs heavily.) They said they were planning to distribute food to the poor and socially disadvantaged families. They brought me some firewood this year, however, I haven’t used it yet. But my main problem, which I addressed them with, is the emergency state of my house, and this problem remains unresolved. They say nothing about repairing or strengthening the house. I also asked them to build me one-room-extension. Well, I don’t know what they will do. If there would be other housing, we would have moved there long ago.

Probably, they are unable to resolve our problems right now. The deputy of our district is aware about our problems and he treats us well. He promised me to help us as soon as he will have this chance.

This is an old house built of stones, it’s over a hundred years old. I don’t know for how long it will stand without major repairs. Probably, it will hold out this year, but nobody knows what will happen to it next year. It is very difficult to keep such a house warm – it’s blowing from all cracks.

– I see that you have decorated the Christmas tree to create a festive mood for your granddaughter and yourself. It is wonderful. It means that there is hope for the better future.

Nino: I was encouraged by the support of so many people. With these vibes you want to become active, to live, you want to defeat your illness. Many of those who called me not only provided me help, but they also cheered me up with their words. You feel a surge of energy. I want to tell you a funny thing, even though this is not directly related to the case. One Kakhetian gentleman called me and … asked me to marry him. Just that straight forward. I didn’t take it seriously, of course. But this story amused me. I used to think that I was an old and sick woman.

Nini comes to us with two dolls in her hands.

– Baby, you haven’t told me yet your dolls’ names!

Nini (3-year-old):Baya and Maya.

– Probably, you are busy now, and you have no time to play with your puppy?

Nini: Ma’am, Bubu is my friend. And here is his mom – bow wow.

Nino: Yes, his mother, a street dog, started coming to our yard. My granddaughter says: “We can give her food now, grandma, we have food.”

Lady Nino laughs and waves her hand.

– Did Nini ask you to write a letter to Santa?

Nino: You are our Santas! Aren’t you? Your Fund has exceeded all our expectations and made our dreams come true. The things that seemed almost impossible to come true came true. Nini has three times more toys than she asked for. Thanks to everyone who is next to us!
