“There’s nothing scarier than seeing your children suffer from cold and hunger and being unable to help them” A heartless father callously abandoned his wife and four young children in a cold, damp cellar, leaving them without money, clothing, or any hope for the future. Why did he shatter the hopes of his own flesh and blood for a better life? What did they do to deserve such punishment? It would have been more merciful to end their lives quickly instead of subjecting them to slow, agonizing suffering.

“There’s nothing scarier than seeing your children suffer from cold and hunger and being unable to help them”
A heartless father callously abandoned his wife and four young children in a cold, damp cellar, leaving them without money, clothing, or any hope for the future.
Why did he shatter the hopes of his own flesh and blood for a better life? What did they do to deserve such punishment? It would have been more merciful to end their lives quickly instead of subjecting them to slow, agonizing suffering.
“My stomach aches from hunger… Please, can I have something to eat, ma’am?” (addressing the journalist)
While children all over the world ask for candies, toys, and ice cream, our Georgian children simply hope their siblings will leave a little leftover soup in the bowl that their mother brought home from the social canteen.
“I also want something to eat, is there anything left for me?”
“This is how my children and me were left to the mercy of fate. Sometimes, I’m afraid of the coming day – they will ask me for food, and I don’t know what to answer, how not to burn with shame”
Single mother Mzevinar Peradze, along with her four young children (five-year-old Sandro, three-year-old Inna, two-year-old Ilya, and eight-month-old Ivan), lives in a cold, damp basement at her ex-husband’s grandmother’s house. But her ex-husband’s grandmother is threatening to kick them out. The family has nowhere else to go; they may find themselves left to their fate, without a roof over their heads. The father abandoned his wife and children, shattering their lives and dreams. Five-year-old Sandro has speech problems and requires a speech therapist’s help and treatment. But their mother doesn’t have the money for it.
Mzevinar: “I fear the upcoming winter the most, I fear that we will freeze. We urgently need warm blankets and mattresses. We need food to prevent the children from starving to death.”
These are children who haven’t had the chance to enjoy their childhood, and a mother who fears that her children will freeze to death… This is our shared tragedy, friends! These are our children suffering from cold and hunger. We have no right to deny them help when there is an opportunity to save them! We are obligated to do so! These children, just like ours, deserve a carefree childhood!
– Mzevinar, what is the biggest problem for your family today?
Mzevinar: Oh, I have so many problems that I don’t even know where to start with. We are in extreme need, and what scares me the most right now is the winter cold. I live with my four children in this basement, and we have no way to heat it – we don’t have gas or firewood for the winter. We don’t even have mattresses and blankets, which means there’s no hope of wrapping the children up to keep them warm. I dream of having a child’s chair to seat my little one and get some work done. I wonder how I manage to raise my four children in such conditions. We constantly lack food, and I don’t have the means to prepare the proper food for my little ones. But what can I do? I only rely on our neighbors and kind-hearted people. What kind of life is this when you’re afraid of dying from hunger and cold?
“I don’t like pasta, but what can I do? We don’t have any other food, and I need to eat something”
– Do you or your children have any health problems?
Mzevinar: You see, they recently caught a cold, they have a virus, and I don’t have the money to take them to the doctor and get them treated. Yesterday, our neighbor gave me a few antibiotic pills, maybe that will help them. My eldest son, Sandro, is already five years old, and he still has difficulty speaking. I’ve never taken him to a speech therapist because I’ve never had the money to do so. Additionally, my ex-husband took everything with hostility, and I didn’t dare to go against his will. He always said that in their family, everyone started talking late, and that it would be the same for us. I couldn’t contradict him; I couldn’t because he was the head of the family. Because of this, the children weren’t even vaccinated. Now, my son is already grown up, but he still doesn’t speak as he should. I hope I can take him to a speech therapist and correct the situation, as long as it’s not too late.
“These windows are more like holes; they let the wind in, and it gets so cold you can’t tell if you’re indoors or outside”
– Mzevinar, does anyone help you? Perhaps the government provides some assistance?
Mzevinar: My neighbors help me – may God bless them! When they cook something at home, they always share it with us. When I need something from the store, they always provide it without any problems, such as diapers for the baby. But I already feel very awkward about it, so I try to go there less often. I also receive social assistance. Recently, I registered my eldest son, Sandro, in kindergarten, and they provided us with one-time assistance – sunflower oil, pasta, and sugar. Another time, the city hall helped us, and that’s about it. Now, we can only rely on God and the help of kind people.
– Tell us the story of you and your husband, where you met, and how many years you were married.
Mzevinar: I met my husband on social media when I lived abroad. When I came to Georgia, we met and started a family – I loved him very much. We were married for twelve years, and I gave birth to four children for him. Now it seems to me that he never loved me because, had he loved me, he wouldn’t have left me alone with four children, without any means of support, abandoned to my fate. He left me and the children for another woman. He even took the child support payments we had been receiving for the last five months and spent them on her, leaving the children with nothing to eat. How can I say that he loved me after all this? It seems to me that he lied to me all his life. I built a family out of great love, but that feeling somehow disappeared. Now all I have left are my children, only the instinct to make them happy. I don’t need anything else.
“I’ll go to bed hungry again”
– What is the common diet for you and your children? What do you eat?
Mzevinar: Often, my children eat only bread. They want so much and need so much, but we can’t afford anything more. And so they eat only watery soup and that’s about it. My little ones dream of bread with butter and tea, meat is out of the question. My children haven’t had meat in a long time. There is nothing more heartbreaking for a mother than when her child asks for chocolate candy, and she can’t afford to buy it for him. I’m so ashamed that they have to watch other kids have things they don’t, that they don’t even know what toys are. When I have a few pennies, I buy only the cheapest food and medications. I don’t have the means to buy paper for drawing and pencils for the children. It’s hell for me.
“This is our restroom, if you can call it that. But what can we do – there’s no other option. Having even this is a relief”
– I can see that the place you live in is in terrible condition. How do you manage to live in such circumstances?
Mzevinar: We’re literally living among bare walls. We have one small room in the basement. This isn’t even my house; it’s my ex-husband’s grandmother’s house. The last time I spoke to her, she told us that she’s planning to sell it and asked us to move out. But I begged her not to leave us homeless. I don’t know for how long she’ll let us in here or when we’ll have to leave. I have nowhere to go. I’d have to live on the streets with four children. We don’t even have a proper bed, let alone other furniture. There’s no washing machine, no stove, no TV. The windows don’t have glass; they’re covered with something, but it doesn’t help. Cold air is seeping in from all sides. There’s no heating to speak of, and I’m afraid we’ll freeze this winter.
“We sleep on these beds, my four children and me. We don’t even have blankets and mattresses; we barely fit. The kids literally sleep on top of each other”
– Do you have hot water? How do you bathe the children? How do you do laundry?
Mzevinar: No, where would we get hot water? Besides, the floor at home is concrete, and they’re constantly playing and rolling on the floor. Their clothes get dirty non-stop, and I have to wash everything with cold water in the yard. Bathing the children is a separate ordeal. Sometimes I bathe them at home in a basin, sometimes I take them to the neighbors’ if it’s possible. I don’t know what we’ll do in the winter and how my four children will survive it. Perhaps I won’t be able to bathe them at home; it’s just as cold here as it is outside. And if they catch a cold, I won’t even be able to buy medications, and I can’t fathom what to do.”
“Summer is still bearable, but in winter, it’s very challenging to wash so much clothing in cold water, and my hands freeze terribly”
– Have your old dreams come true?
Mzevinar: Oh! Whatever I dreamt of never came true.
– What did you imagine your life would be like when you were young?
Mzevinar: I always thought I would have a strong family, that I would have children, a husband by my side, and we wouldn’t know need. I couldn’t have imagined that I would end up in such a dire situation, that my children would dream of food, but it happened. What I dreamed of never came true; life was unfair to me. The only thing I have is my four angels who brighten my life. It’s because of them that I find joy in each new day. I only wish for them to be happy; I ask nothing more from God.
“I want toys! Other children have so many of them, but I don’t have a single one! When I have money, I will buy many toy cars and play with them”
– Are you a religious person? Do you pray often?
Mzevinar: Of course! I pray regularly at home. It’s hard for me to go to church with four children as I can’t leave them alone at home and taking them with me is not possible. Besides, there isn’t a church nearby that I can walk to while carrying my youngest and holding the hands of the older ones. But I always pray at home. I believe my love for God and my hope in Him give me strength in my situation. Prayer helps me a lot.
“Mommy, is there any bread left?”
– What do you need the most right now?
Mzevinar: We need a lot of things for my children to live a normal life. But, most of all, I fear the upcoming winter. I’m afraid we’ll freeze. We need warm blankets and mattresses, food to prevent the children from starving. We need a gas stove – so we don’t have to go to the neighbors to warm up lunch. I really need a washing machine to wash the children’s clothes because there is always a lot of laundry. Those who have children surely understand how challenging it is to raise four kids, especially for a single mother. It’s indeed a double load, a double responsibility. It’s so hard to realize that you have to deal with all these problems on your own. I don’t even know how I manage to cope. When I take the children to visit our neighbors, they don’t want to come back home. There, they watch television and ask to stay a little longer. We don’t have a TV at home, but how long can we bother the neighbors? We really need a television so that the kids don’t spend all their time at the neighbors’ place.
“When Mom has a lot of things to do, I hold my little brother and play with him, but I can’t hold him for long. He’s heavy, and my arms start to hurt”
– Do you believe in the kindness of strangers?
Mzevinar: I believe that kind-hearted people will take our troubles close to their hearts and won’t leave my children without attention. I believe in goodness. I know that kind people won’t condemn my four children to hunger and cold. I know that kindness is contagious. I know that we will receive help, and my little ones will see that they are not alone in this vast world. Please, help my children!
It’s so hard to live in a world where hunger and cold threaten children all around you. If you’ve never been through this, it’s impossible to imagine what it’s like when your child asks you for food, and you can’t feed them, when they shiver from the cold, and you can’t warm them. Such a life is a real tragedy.
They urgently need warm mattresses, blankets, and quilts. They need household appliances (a gas stove, a television, a washing machine), and they need food. We must save this family; we must give these children a childhood! We can do it! We must do it!
Every time you can help someone, just do it, and rejoice that God answers someone’s prayers through you!

We have already helped thousands of disadvantaged people! Let’s support this family too! And who knows, maybe someday we ourselves will need the help of strangers! Life is always unpredictable!
Even if you dial once this special number, it might save someone’s life. It might save someone’s life: 0901200270! God bless you!
These children still live in the basement. May they only experience bright and joyful dreams on their cartoon pillows and sheets!
Dad carried away belongings and appliances from the house, while 5-year-old Sandro wondered, “Dad, where are you taking these?” At first, he took the TV, refrigerator, and then he himself vanished from the lives of his four children. The next humiliation came when the children and their mother were relocated to the basement, which belonged to Dad’s grandmother.
God will judge such a person who robs his own children. You have given the children much more to help them forget their terrible traumas and grievances: a television, refrigerator, gas stove, washing machine, beds, dresser, clothes… You have helped the mother of many children, Mzevinar, to not break down and lose faith in people.
No child should live with pain and resentment in their heart! Thank you for showering little Inna with gifts and bringing joy to her!
– Mzevinar, the kids asked where the things were coming from again in the house?
– Mzevinar: Sandro is deeply affected by what his dad did. He talks about it with his little sister, Inna. Your gifts for the children are like therapy for them. I explained to them that there is a foundation where only kind people are, and they only bring, but do not take away.
First, you need to admire the coveted toy car with a remote control. After all, everything is beautiful: both the box and the car itself!
Mzevinar: “Your gifts for the children are like therapy.”
Sandro (5 years old): “Gave us Pa-bi-ba-bi.”
Mzevinar: You won’t understand Sandro’s speech; he needs a speech therapist. But I’ll translate for you. He calls it “pa-bi-ba-bi” because of the sound the keys make when dialing a number. The foundation transferred us the money, and for Sandro’s birthday, I went and bought him a Samsung Galaxy. As soon as he got it in his hands, he figured everything out better than me. He browses YouTube, communicates on messenger, downloads games…
A phone for his birthday! While mom was reading the instructions, Sandro got into YouTube, messenger, and managed to download a game!
You’ve brought order to our basement, as much as possible,. The children now know where to take and where to put their things. Sandro has his own shelf in the new dresser, and Inna has hers… They happily put on their new blouses, pants. You’re also helping me with clothes; I haven’t bought them anything in a long time.
The children unpacked their new bedding, delighted to have new blankets, pillows, and beds. We’re not assembling the bunk bed yet; we’re using the beds separately because the ceiling here is very low. Oh, how long my children haven’t seen a normal life and seem to be serving a terrible punishment in this basement. You’re bringing us back to a normal life and helping me not to lose my mind.
We sat down to rest on the pile of new pillows, mattresses, and blankets.
These dark walls and low ceiling weigh on the psyche. We didn’t even have a TV to listen to the news or watch something. At least now we can distract ourselves.
Everything that Dad took away, the readers of the fund brought back, and even much better!
Your social worker, colleagues, and the readers of the fund are now close people to me, while my ex-husband and his relatives are strangers. I never thought this would happen, but it did. You’re more interested in what the children have for lunch, and you fill our fridge. Thanks to you, my fridge has meat, eggs, butter, yogurt… And this fridge is here thanks to you!
“You’re more interested in what the kids are having for dinner. You bought us a refrigerator and filled it from top to bottom.”
And a washing machine, and a new gas stove… I connected the washing machine and am using it. But the gas hasn’t been installed, and it doesn’t make sense; we’ll have to move out of here soon anyway.
Mzevinar: “We’ll connect the gas stove in the new place. We’re being evicted from here.”
– How much time did your husband’s grandmother give for eviction?
– Mzevinar: A month, maximum two. The district administration is already aware of the situation, my gamgebeli himself knows about my problem, and the municipality is informed. They are looking for new rental housing in the areas of Vanta, Khodasheni… I hope everything works out, and I won’t end up on the street with four children. That’s my main concern. And, of course, the children’s health needs attention. Sandro needs to see a speech therapist, and Ilia needs to see an eye doctor… Everything you’ve given me, I’ll take with me.
– Mzevinar, have you personally met anyone from our readers?
– Mzevinar: Of course! And I introduced the children to them as well. One nice family came from afar: a husband, wife, and their adult son. They gave us groceries: flour, vegetable oil, grains, chocolate. They visited us from our region, from Kakheti. Nika from Tsnori came, another guy from Telavi. They also came with food, with gifts… If it weren’t for all this, and your support after the betrayal I experienced with my children, I probably wouldn’t have coped. Everything was important for our healing: your warm words, your gifts, and your attention.
It’s time to launch our racing car! The rally begins!
It still hurts a lot and feels bitter, but you know how to heal wounds. Thank God that my children have received so much love, met so many worthy and noble people! Your kindness saved us from terrible despair! Thank you for becoming our family when our blood relatives turned away from the children!
If you have a heavy heart because of everyday problems or unresolved issues, as a distraction just see our posts on Facebook, or better call any of our beneficiaries, and all your problems will seem unimportant to you, compared with the problems of those to whom you helped in the most difficult moment of their lives.
Our problems are nothing if compared… Here are true misfortunes, in front of your eyes! Just thank the Lord for what you have. You are the happiest person in the world! Remember this and help those in need.
If any of you, dear friends, has such a generous heart and income to take permanent guardianship over this family, we’ll spread the word, and all of Georgia will know about this person! In just a couple of months, there will be no more duck or delicious pastries! Lord, help us! According to statistics, there are up to 100,000 people, if not more, living in such families in Georgia! We will also do our best not to forget! But finding the right people is truly challenging…
Unfortunately, problems of this and other families do not end here and now… Therefore, from time to time, look through the stories of unhappy people on our website, talk to them. Every time you dial the Phone of an unhappy person, God is blessing you! For sure! Go on helping these families! This is the best service to the Lord!
