A young and tight-knit family. They’ve blessed Georgia with so many beautiful and healthy children, and then such a tragedy struck… Their home was destroyed by a landslide, and they found shelter wherever they could. When it rains, the whole family prays for it to stop quickly and for their beds to dry! Sleeping in a puddle is torture! And in winter, it may happen that those who slept soundly may never wake up again: they might choke or freeze to death!

0901200270Our house was swept away in a landslide! We have nothing left! And we have no one to ask for help!
Corr. Why do you cry so bitterly?
Nikusha: “I am crying because my stomach hurts from hunger!” And also… Recently, I got dizzy from hunger, fell from a high balcony, and lost consciousness!
Corr. The child needs urgent medical attention, but who will take him? His parents are now destitute because of the tragedy that befell them!
Nikusha: It’s a bad house, auntie! It’s evil! Don’t stay here for long! You’ll cry too!
Corr. And why do you live here with your sisters and brother?! There are no windows or doors here. And winter is coming soon!
Nikusha: Our house was swept away by a landslide! It was good, and we had everything…
Corr. And how do you cope with hunger?!
“When I’m hungry, I quietly slip away and go to sleep. And then my little tummy falls asleep and stops hurting!”

It’s more like ruins than a house! With leaking roof and without windows. I feel sorry for my children
Dali (12-year-old): “If there’s heavy rain, a puddle appears in my bed.”
“Grandma is Tika 84 years old, and she goes to the forest to gather firewood so that we don’t freeze!””
“In our house, there are no windows, so it’s very cold inside. During rainy weather, it rains indoors almost as much as it does outside.”
“You know, I’m not lazy and I help my dad with everything.”
Do you want to know a secret? I tried meat soup once at my friend’s birthday,” – suddenly says the older son Levan. – I liked it very much. I miss it, and I want to eat it again, but I don’t know when I’ll have the chance. I can’t wait to grow up. I will earn a lot of money and help my family.
– Levan, you’re becoming a grown-up, and you must be well aware of your family’s situation. What do you dream about?
Levan (14 years old) What I want the most is to have my own room. I share a room with my grandmother, and I’m a big boy now, so it’s uncomfortable. Sometimes, I imagine what my room would be like. I’d have a blue study desk with a computer, a bed, and I really want a phone. All my friends have one, and I want one too. I need it for my studies as well because everyone around has phones.
– Zviad, could you please tell us if you’ve always lived in such conditions?
Zviad: We haven’t always been in this situation. We used to live in Khulo, and we coped somehow. But our house was swept away by a landslide, so we bought this small piece of land and moved here. The state helped us very little then and this is what we managed to acquire.
“This is our washing machine. It doesn’t work, so Mom has to do laundry by hand”
– Do you have clothes suitable for school?
Dali (12-year-old): Well, our mom once bought us some clothes, and we have them. They are already old, but we have no other options. Our shoes get soaked, and when it rains, mom doesn’t let us go to school because our feet might get wet, and we’ll get sick. We can’t afford medications. We don’t have umbrellas, and we don’t have school bags. Our grandmother gave us some old bags, and it is the only bag I have. It’s torn, but I need to put my books somewhere.
Nikusha (4 years old): I want a car, really want this gift, I would play with it a lot
“Our youngest is turning 5 soon, and I’m still breastfeeding him to ensure he doesn’t go hungry”
– What is your income? What do you eat?
Tina: My husband works, and his salary is very small, but it’s something, at least. We also receive a small social allowance, but it’s never enough. You probably know how much money it takes to raise four children. There isn’t much food, and the children go to bed half-hungry. Our youngest is turning 5 soon, and I’m still breastfeeding him to ensure he doesn’t go hungry. He’s often very hungry, but we don’t have enough food at home to feed all four of them.
– Do you remember your old house? How did you live back then?
Dali (12-year-old): I remember it, of course. That house was small too, but it wasn’t as terrible as this one. We didn’t have plenty of clothes or an abundance of food back then either, but life wasn’t as dreadful as it is now.
Maguli (11-year-old): We have almost no school supplies – no notebooks, markers, or exercise books. We only have 12-page notebooks and one pen for all of us. Thick exercise books are expensive, and mom can’t buy them; she has no money. I also really want some modeling clay. I would draw and show you the room I dream of having.
“It is very hard for us to live like this now, but when we grow up, we will earn a lot of money and help our family”
– What will you become when you grow up?
Levan (14 years old) First, I want to join the army, and then I’ll become a sailor. I can’t wait to grow up and earn a lot of money to help my family so my sisters and brother don’t have to live in such poverty.
I’ll also build a new house where the roof won’t leak, and there won’t be a cold draft from the windows, and everyone will have their own room. That would make me very happy.
– Levan, you are a very smart and kind boy, and I’m sure you’ll achieve great success in life.
Maguli: I also want to join the army, and then I want to become a police officer.
– Why do you want to join the army and become a police officer?
Maguli: I would catch thieves and bad people, so only good people would be left in the world.
Together, we can bring back the joy of life and happiness to these children! They have nothing, and even the smallest thing will be a great luxury for them.
Is it worth living in a world where children beside us go to sleep and wake up crying from hunger? In a world where life has taken away the joy from these kids?
They urgently need a roof to be repaired so that rain doesn’t pour on their beds. They need warm clothing, food, and school supplies. These little ones dream of sweets and phones. The little one, Nikoloz, needs to undergo a medical examination. His life might be hanging by a thread, and we are unaware of it. There is absolutely no household equipment in their home (washing machine, refrigerator, gas stove, television), and there are no basic living conditions.
Let’s not wait for someone else to come and help them; you must do it today. You must save their lives! If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Samtredia District, village Agara.
We are sure that all together we will manage to give them childhood! Every time you can help someone, just do it, and rejoice that God answers someone’s prayers through you!
We are sure that all together we will manage to save them from imminent death.
