❗❗❗ This is a very heavy story! If you’ve just become a mom or are expecting a baby, refrain from reading this interview – the emotions here can be overwhelming❗❗❗
Theona and Ramaz’s story began like any other couple in love! Then they prayed and waited for a child for a whole 10 years! And a miracle happened! The nine months of pregnancy were the happiest in their lives. They were already picturing the joys of long-awaited parenthood! They debated what their little girl’s first word would be: “mama” or “papa”? “But our happiness didn’t last long,” Teona says. – God help! At the age of 8 months, Elene’s eyes started to roll back…Georgia’s most famous neurologist calmed us down and prescribed her a whole bag of expensive medications. But he sternly warned us: If you don’t give even one, the child will die!” But I felt in my heart that something was wrong because things were getting worse. And here we are in Turkey, where we came with our last money – ours and our kind neighbors

“My long-awaited little one! She was so cute! Elene was a wonderful gift from God!”

A grief-stricken mother, doesn’t want to lose her daughter.
– When did you realize it was something wrong with your daughter?
Teona: When Elena was 8 months old, she started to roll her eyes, couldn’t fall asleep, and cried all the time. We took her to Tbilisi to the most famous pediatric neurologist, and you know the rest… Thank God I went to Turkey, otherwise I would have killed my daughter with medication!
– And what did you do?
Teona: Two weeks later, when the child no longer responded to anything, I literally became a beggar. I sold everything, borrowed from everyone I knew, and took her to Turkey. When the doctor read the prescription of his Georgian colleague, he started to stagger! He said only one thing: “You were killing your child.” He told us to stop taking all the medications immediately. I objected to him, told him that a doctor from Tbilisi, a professor, strictly forbid to stop taking the medications. But he didn’t even want to listen to me. “Believe me!” said this great doctor, and I believed him.
– I am listening to you so tensely! It’s like you’re telling me a scary movie!
Teona: A miracle happened! A few days after Turkey, Elene came to her senses, smiled at me, became active. But in 2019, death came again to take her away from me!
“That’s how little Elene fought death.”
– So what did happen this time?
Teona: As I said before, after treatment with the medications prescribed by Turkish doctors Elene began to recover. She became very active. She even stood and walked in her walker. And then I got distracted for a second, she went to the table and pulled the tablecloth over herself, and there was a pot of boiling water. When we brought her to the hospital, the doctors said that the injury was so severe that the child might not survive. They gave us three days. They said: “If the body copes, she will come to her senses, and if not, prepare for the worst!” But the Lord had mercy on us and gave us our daughter’s life again.
“The Lord gave me a daughter again… She has a guardian angel who never leaves her.”
– This incident must have had consequences?
Teona: Yes, you’re right. After a while, she started having seizures again. I was afraid of our doctors, so we went to Turkey again, did a bunch of tests, tomography, and genetic testing. They identified Reye syndrome. I always feared cancer the most. I thought it was the worst thing that could happen to a person, but it turns out there are diseases in the world that are more terrifying and frightening! Diseases that have no cure, that kill.
It turns out that cancer is not the scariest disease in the world.
Teona: We were lucky! The diagnosis in Turkey was made quickly, and our doctors, I suppose, would have treated her for the flu again. The medication can extend her life – the life of my joy, without pain. But these medications are very, very expensive! She needs more tests and examinations! And my husband and I are just plain poor… Help and believe, as I do… And pray for another miracle to happen! I believe that since the Lord loves my baby so much, He will not leave her in such a condition!
Elena may look like a healthy child, but death is following her. A very rare disease wants to kill her, but her mother doesn’t give up and fights with all her might! And yet a person’s life, even the life of a sick person, always comes from God. Life is the highest value for Him! Let’s help Teona in her fight, friends! Few have endured as much as she has. God is on her side! Otherwise, Elene would have been dead a long time ago! We at the Fund believe in this with all our hearts!
– How does Elene’s illness manifest itself?
Teona: She can’t walk, she doesn’t talk. She can’t do anything. She just lies down all day and watches cartoons or TV, or on her phone. God forbid taking her away from the screen for a few minutes – she starts to have a tantrum! She screams, cries…
Death wants to take her away, but her mother won’t let go of her beloved and long-awaited daughter.
– What does Elene need to live?
Teona: To live, Elena needs expensive medications. And we don’t have that kind of money! I give her nine types of medications every day! One ampoule of the medication, which needs to be injected twice a week, costs 110 lari. We bring it home in a special container with ice. Another set of pills, which we buy in Turkey, costs us 720 lari a month! How much do you need to earn to provide for a child’s life? All the necessary medications cost around 2500 lari a month! And we don’t have that kind of money! Until today, we have only survived thanks to the donations of kind people, but now there is no one to even ask for help! Everyone has their own children, everyone has their own concerns. So we decided to turn to the Fund. We need money for medications, diapers, and food. And if you can give us a special wheelchair that can fix the child’s body and head, then this will be vital!
The life of this little beauty has a price – 2500 lari per month!
– The fund has many friends who care about every Georgian child, who value every life!
Teona: And I also want as many moms as possible to read my story. Before they start giving their children medicines prescribed by the experts, let them check everything first.
Teona and Ramaz, who live in Georgia, experience all the hardships and joys of parenthood. Their daughter Elene was born after 10 years of anticipation, and every step of hers was a celebration for them. But their joy quickly turned to fear when little Elene started having seizures, and doctors prescribed medicines that brought her to a condition close to death.
We are addressing each of you, friends, with a call to help this little girl. Let our kindness and compassion be stronger than despair, and our help become a ray of hope in the life of Elene and her family.
