Our little angel Ilona suffers unbearable pain during her episodes. Her whole body hurts – so intensely that at times it feels impossible to survive. It feels as if the devil is tearing a person to pieces. This pain cannot be compared to anything else.

Only expensive medication can save her. Billionaires can afford it, but our Ilona, coming from a poor family, cannot.

Because of the brain damage, every day of this child’s life is real hell.

And the worst part is that she cannot even express in words the horrible pain that torments her daily. No adult could survive even a single day of it.

Yes… sadly, this beautiful girl cannot talk. When she can no longer endure the unbearable agony, she howls in pain and makes sounds that would make even soulless rocks weep for her suffering.

She was born perfectly healthy. Until she was two and a half, Ilona didn’t even need simple medications. She was remarkably bright. And her beautiful face always shone with a smile. Like a little sun, she warmed the world with her lovely smile and kind eyes.

But, as they say, the devil never sleeps… And indeed, one day the bell of misfortune rang for the Vashakmadze family.

Dear friends, we will not burden your hearts with more details. The story is horrible… and the diagnosis even more terrible. Because of the brain damage, the girl’s life is in serious danger.

The good news is that after examinations abroad, doctors confirmed that she can be treated – if she undergoes full physiotherapy and, most importantly, first receives medication that is always available abroad, costing $1,400. Only after that will the hospital issue the final bill.

Doctors in Turkey know about this sick child. While she was being examined, they grew fond of her. They ask the Fund about her… And if she dies, it would be a disgrace – an enormous disgrace for all of Georgia.

What can a destitute family do? How can they buy such expensive medications if they cannot even afford a heater, which costs about 800 lari? In this bitter winter cold, a sick little girl shivers.

What has this child done wrong? Why is she being punished? Is her only “fault” that she was born into a poor family?

Her father is ill as well… but what torments him far more than any physical pain is the pain in his soul. Just imagine, even for a moment, how a parent’s heart breaks when they watch their own child suffer and can do nothing to stop it. You wouldn’t wish such a sight even on a snake – no matter how cruel it may be – watching its offspring in pain. No living creature in this world, not even an ant, deserves such a fate.

Today in the Fund’s office we all sit in silence… But only one question keeps echoing in our minds: What if we fail to raise the money for Ilona’s life-saving medicine? Because if we don’t… it will mean taking away her last chance to survive. No – we cannot even allow ourselves to think that.

When I first visited their home, the child was wearing two knitted sweaters – because, as you already know, there is no heater in the house. When she saw me, she suddenly ran into the other room. I thought she was frightened by the presence of a stranger and had gone to hide. But exactly five minutes later, a real princess emerged – wearing a beautiful dress.

Later I learned that Ilona didn’t have a warm, pretty winter dress… so she put on her summer dress in December just to warmly welcome the “strange lady” who had come to see her. My God… where does such quick wit come from in such a little girl?

Kind people, the fate of this angel is now entirely in your hands. We aren’t exaggerating – only you can save five-year-old Ilona.
