Salome, 5-year-old: “Everything burned to the ground. But I’m mostly sad about my toys. They were my little family…”

Little Salome and Sandro sift through the ashes, searching in the charred remains for anything that might have survived. It’s a heartbreaking sight.

Salome, 5-year-old: “Look, auntie, these were my favorite sneakers. They burned… My toys burned too. The TV, my little bed, my clothes – I cried so much.”

This is all that remains of these little angels’ home. You only need to look once to see the scale of their loss.

Magda, mother (26): “We and our little children were left without the roof over our heads. With nothing but the clothes we were wearing. The fire destroyed everything. The most important thing is that the children are alive. For that, I thank God.”

The house caught fire because of a short circuit. It’s a miracle, no one was inside at the time. Salome was at kindergarten, and Sandro was at school. By the time they rushed back with their parents, nothing was left.

The fire happened just days before New Year – the time when children wait for miracles and write letters to Santa. But little Salome’s letter never reached its destination. It burned along with her New Year dreams. Now the little girl believes her wishes might still come true – on one magical morning.  Let’s show these children that real miracles can happen any day. Kind wizards do exist – and they are you, our kind-hearted friends of the Fund.

Jumber, father (31): “This is the house where I was born. Where I grew up. Where my children were growing up. I wanted to leave it to them… What we built over 30 years disappeared in a few hours. I worked my whole life so my family would have everything. And now we have nothing. We survive only on social allowance. But I want to build the house again. This is our land. Our home.”

The washing machine and refrigerator melted in the fire. Only blackened, charred frames remain, covered in soot.

Salome: “I miss my home. Every day I ask Mommy and Daddy when we’re going back.”

Magda, mother (26): “The state gave us temporary housing – for six months. And after that? I keep thinking: ‘What if we end up on the street again?’”

These children are not asking for much. They are not asking for expensive phones. Not for fashionable clothes.

They are asking for a home. A warm room. Their own little beds.
