We look at Nino and see an ordinary young woman. But her two-year-old Andria sees a whole universe in her.

He reaches out his little hands to her. He waits for her to pick him up. He waits for his mother to smile. He waits for her to hold him close.

He doesn’t know that his mother has epilepsy.
He doesn’t know that the seizures happen often.
He doesn’t know that every time one ends, she is afraid to open her eyes.

Nino is not afraid of death. She is afraid of something else. She is afraid that one day little Andria might wake up – and find himself alone.

She is still young. But the illness has drained her. Poverty has drained her. The constant struggle has drained her.

And yet her heart is not tired. She fights every single day – so her son will have food, warmth, and safety.

Right now, Nino urgently needs surgery. An enlargement of the blood vessels in her cervix is causing bleeding. Without treatment, her condition will worsen. The Ministry of Health has not stood aside.

Her husband works every day without rest. He is doing everything he can. But it is not enough.

Today, this family is holding on to hope — to the hope that we can give them.
