More than a tragedy!

This is Lasha, 34 years old. Half of his life – 17 years – he has spent confined to a bed and a wheelchair. This has been a long and difficult story, and only now does Lasha have the chance to stand on his own feet.

Lasha was finishing school, in his final year. He was preparing to move on to the most important stage of his life. One sunny day, he decided to relax and went into the forest with a friend. Lasha’s eyes shone with happiness – and then, in an instant, light turned to darkness. His friend’s gun accidentally fired, and the bullet struck Lasha.

Then came the ICU… the bitter cries of his mother and father, tears and lamentations of loved ones. And after a while, everyone except his family gradually forgot about him. What followed were endless white coats and forgetfulness, and when he awoke – the horror was unimaginable: the lower part of his young and once strong body refused to obey him.

By the grace of God, the Virgin Mary covered this unfortunate young man with her protection, and Lasha’s life was spared. But with it, his hopes, plans, and goals died. His present and future… died.

Lasha missed the last school bell, could not attend the farewell evening, did not go to the graduation banquet, and never opened the doors of the university…

He never started the first day at his dream job, never felt the joy of his first paycheck. He didn’t give roses to a single girl… didn’t start a family, didn’t become a father.

For 17 years, his only connection to the outside world has been a rectangular frame – a window, the only thing letting him see the colors of the world he has been separated from for 17 years.

Lahsa, 34-year-old: “Despite 17 years of hell, there hasn’t been a single day I blamed the Lord.  On the contrary, every day I thank God for keeping me alive. And after giving thanks, I dare to ask God for healing.”

This little angel is Lasha’s 5-month-old niece.

Lahsa, 34-year-old: “I love her more than life itself. My heart aches that I cannot hold her. I cannot take her for walks, I cannot play with her. When she grows a little, she may even feel hurt: ‘Maybe uncle doesn’t love me, that’s why he won’t play with me.’”

When Lasha was growing up, he had a puppy by his side.  Together, they ran across the village fields. But since Lasha ended up in a wheelchair, his loyal friend stopped running through the fields.

Now, they sit together, looking from behind the gate at the road and the endless distance. They hope that one day someone will walk down this road and tell Lasha: “Get ready – soon you will have surgery that will return to the life you had 17 years ago.”

For 17 years, this unfortunate young man has dreamed of hearing these words… all in vain.

And now, after 17 years, a real chance has appeared for this noble young man to escape hell. But without your help, kind people, it is impossible.

Turkish doctors are already waiting for our brave young man. Everything is ready – but there is only one thing missing.
