Help is needed right now! 40-year-old Teona – the mother of two sons – is dying in terrible pain in an intensive care unit in a foreign country. Her kidneys have failed. She cannot get out of bed, and her family can no longer afford the treatment keeping her alive.  Please – help save a human life!

When a reporter from the Chernovetskyi Fund called Teona by video, she was crying from pain in her hospital room and could barely speak. She no longer had the strength even for words.

Teona, 40 years old: “I am in so much pain. I cannot endure it anymore. I cannot move – it feels as if my body is beginning to rot. I am terrified. I do not want to die. I want to live. I want to see my sons grow up.”

At home, two sons are waiting for her – Tedo and Saba.

One is still just a child, a sixth-grade student.

The other serves in the army.

Teona was taken to Turkey in critical condition.

She could no longer feel her body.

Doctors transported her with medical equipment, as though only a fragile thread remained between life and death  – one that could snap at any moment.

And the family prayed for only one thing:

“Lord… please let her arrive alive…”

She survived the journey.

But the struggle is not over.

Now Teona may die simply because the family has no money left.

They are already deeply in debt to the Turkish hospital.

And the treatment cannot be stopped for even a single day.

Because stopping now would mean the end.

IV drips. Transfusions. Medical tests. Intensive care.

Every procedure feels like another sentence for a family that has already run out of money.

The hospital bill has reached: 31,500 dollars. Where can a suffering family possibly find such money?

Zviad, 41 years old: “We are already in debt to the hospital. If we cannot pay, they will stop the treatment. And I cannot let that happen. I cannot lose her.”

Zviad works at a gas station. After his shifts, he took extra jobs – chopping wood for neighbors, carrying heavy loads, cleaning yards.

Anything to save his wife.

Anything so their children would not lose their mother.

The transplanted kidney has failed. Just three years ago, the person who loved her most saved her life: her father became a donor and gave his daughter one of his kidneys. Since then, Teona lived with one kidney, believing the worst was behind her. But suddenly everything changed. A severe infection. Sepsis… Yesterday she was living her ordinary life. Today she is confined to a hospital bed.

And Teona’s hands…

Look at them.

Covered in bruises from endless injections and IV lines.

It looks as though this woman has been beaten.

But it is illness beating her.

And poverty.

Because without money, the treatment will stop.
