The scoundrel husband abandoned the beautiful 20-year-old Sofia as soon as he found out that his son, Giorgi, was infected with a deadly disease in the hospital! Now he pays 100 lari in alimony and lives for his pleasure! The mother dedicated the best years of her life to her child. Love knows no boundaries! Self-sacrifice! Only mothers know what that is! Giorgi was born premature and developed sepsis due to the negligence of doctors, which affected the baby’s brain. Because of the infection!

The doctors said he wouldn’t survive. But the Lord protected the boy. Then he was almost at death’s door three times, but by the prayers of Sofia, God brought him back to life three times!
Giorgi is doomed. His illness is incurable. His mother knows that her son will never get better and fights with all her might to keep him from getting worse.”
The life of this beautiful boy hangs by a thread
Sofia: My pregnancy and childbirth went well. I gave birth to a healthy boy. On the second day, he became ill. He developed sepsis, and the infection spread throughout his body, damaging his brain. He spent three months in an intensive care unit, and the doctors fought for his life. It was a big blow for me. I remember those days, all my feelings and prayers, in which I turned to God to give me strength to help my son.
Every breath he takes is a gift for his mother!
– How do you manage to cope with a sick child alone?
Sofia: It’s very hard both financially and physically. My husband didn’t want a sick child, and he left me alone when I was 20 years old. If it weren’t for my parents, I wouldn’t have been able to cope. I bow down to all the mothers who raise severely ill children alone, without any external help. Almost all men run away from such a burden. It’s very hard. Now he has another family, and he doesn’t have time for Giorgi, let him be happy. Let’s not talk about him. I have my mother, and she is my angel. She got a job as a cleaner to support me financially because the pension and allowance are barely enough for food. Giorgi still needs medical supplies like suction catheters, feeding tubes, and we still have to pay for our apartment. God, give me strength.
“You are my breath”
– Do you have your own house?
Sofia: I’m originally from Abastumani, my mother lives there, but now because of Gio’s illness exacerbation, we can’t stay there due to the climate. In September 2021, the baby got infected with COVID-19. It was terrible. He can’t even catch a cold, and he managed to catch this terrible disease! Giorgi barely survived. He was in the intensive care unit for a month and a half, with no chance of surviving. But Giorgi survived. When they discharged him from the hospital and I brought him home, he began to suffocate, turn blue, and roll his eyes. I was losing him! I was losing a son who barely survived. I called an ambulance, and they took him back to the hospital. Once again, the doctors did the impossible and brought him back from the brink. It turned out that after the virus, his immunity weakened, and he couldn’t tolerate mountain air. The doctors sternly warned us to stay in Tbilisi and be near the hospital. When Giorgi’s condition worsens, every minute counts!
Mom feeds George through a tube
– It’s scary to even imagine what you had to go through.
Sofia: Not me, but my martyr had to go through it. After COVID-19, he couldn’t even eat. Food constantly went into his lungs. Then the doctors put a nasogastric tube, and I fed him through his nose… and now he has tubes sticking out of his stomach. He really loved to eat, and it was very hard for him to get used to the fact that he wouldn’t be able to eat through his mouth anymore. He cried so much… we had to give him a sedative and take him to a psychologist.
“How much more can my child endure?”
– What is his condition today?
Sofia: You know, when you give birth to a sick child, you don’t think about what will happen next, how you will live on. The main thing is for him to live… you live only for today. And every day is a gift. I look at him and think that he would have been a cheerful boy if he hadn’t been sick. You know how he sometimes smiles at me, how he loves it when I cuddle and sing to him. He can explain everything with just one sound. When he wants to hug – he screams “maaa”, when he wants to eat – “amaama”.
“Mommy is with you, don’t be afraid”
– What do you need the most right now?
Sofia: Just look at him, he’s smiling, so he’s not in any pain. He can’t even live for a second without me. He needs to have the mucus from his lungs suctioned. He needs constant talking to – when I say to him, ‘who’s my handsome boy,’ Gio makes sounds. He needs an expensive examination, and the tubes in his stomach need to be changed. He also needs a special wheelchair.
“Don’t think that just because Nikoloz is sick, he doesn’t feel anything. Look how he rejoices when he sees his mom”
– I noticed that all this time he did not let the giraffe out of his hands!
Sofia: You are right – this giraffe is his favorite toy. He always has it with him, at home and in the ICU. Giorgi will never have school friends, but this toy is everything to him!
Giraffe Jose is a real friend to Giorgi

Feeling better, having a stock of diapers and medications for a month, and also receiving new toys – these already bring joy to Gio. What can we do to bring him happiness?
Gio’s life is challenging. He frequently suffers from pneumonia and receives food through an opening in his abdomen (gastric stoma). He wears diapers around the clock. Gio’s father made his choice by abandoning and forgetting about his child with cerebral palsy, who requires extra care and support.
But his mother sofia and all of us have a completely different choice – to do everything so that little fighter Gio can live, be happy, and experience the joy of life!
And you know what? We’re making it happen! For the first time in his little life, where there were only hospitals and intensive care units before, Gio went on a big stroll – to Mtatsminda Park. He went there on a special wheelchair, which was gifted by the readers of the foundation.
Moreover, Gio now has a table with a chair where he can comfortably have his meals, diapers, and the necessary medications for him. New toys also bring him joy, especially his new favorite – a long-eared bunny. You are giving him a chance at life!
Gio’s new favorite toy – long eared bunny
– Sofia, it’s great that you’ve started going out of the house. I’m curious, who initiates these walks outside – you or Gio?
Sofia: Definitely Gio. He can’t wait to go for a walk; he shows it in every way possible that it’s time to be outside. He adores people, interaction, and attention. However, with the old regular wheelchair, we couldn’t walk for long. Gio would quickly get tired, restlessly move his head, and put his fingers in his mouth repeatedly. I could see that he was getting nervous and feeling uncomfortable.
But now, he doesn’t want to go back home at all. We go out at 8:00 in the morning when it’s still cool, and we walk to our heart’s content until breakfast time (around 9:00), breathing in the fresh air. In this special wheelchair, his head, back, and legs are positioned correctly. He has complete freedom for his hands. We can even adjust the wheelchair to a lying position. It also has a sunshade. I’m really pleased; it’s exactly what I asked for and what I bothered you about.Gio is just eager to be outside! In this wheelchair, he can walk for as long as his heart desires!
Gio is thrilled! In this wheelchair, he even went for a ride in Mtatsminda Park!
We felt so encouraged that we decided to go to Mtatsminda Park, and we strolled around there for several hours. Gio was absolutely thrilled with joy and the new experiences.
I also want to show you the other gifts we received. Now, I can feed Gio at a special table. It’s important that he remains calm and still during meals because of his gastric stoma. While he can’t taste food (I am strictly forbidden from feeding him orally!), I believe he should still derive some form of pleasure from the experience, right?! Thank you for caring about him and sending us such beautiful table and chair!
Gio now dines on a beautiful table and a comfortable chair
“I feed my son from the syringe. He doesn’t taste the food, but at least let it be in a beautiful setting.”
“My boy should at least experience some delight.”
Thank you for purchasing the air purifier! Your support enables Gio to breathe comfortably, and this is truly priceless. I am grateful that you have taken his daily medications and hygiene into consideration as well. Your Foundation is the only one that has shown such care and concern for him. Even his own father, who has rejected him since birth, remains unchanged despite your efforts.
And you… I will always be indebted to you. My son smiles and finds happiness because of your help. You are sustaining his life.
“You are helping Gio breathe! He now has an air purifier!”
– Those were very emotional words, Sofia. Gio’s health is of utmost importance to us. How is he feeling now?
Sofia: Overall, he’s doing well. I’m giving him all the necessary medications that you provided me with, including the ones with calcium. Gio is currently teething, so he needs those. I also give him medicine to help thin the mucus. In the morning and evening, he takes calming medications – clonazepam and risperidone. And, of course, he takes vitamin D – “akvadetrim” regularly.
“At this moment gio is feeling well.”
Sophia: “I am giving Gio all the medicines that you provided me with.”
Not long ago, Gio had pneumonia, which unfortunately happens to him quite often after recovering from COVID-19. Even a little sweat can pose a risk if I can’t change his clothes on time.
The doctor prescribed a special protein-based diet for Gio, a medication which is only given to sick children. He needs to take it for six months, ten days a month. We desperately need your help with this.
“This medication Gio should be taken for six months.”
I am so grateful that you are part of our lives. Gio and I have found true friends in you. Feel free to call or visit whenever you wish. My boy will be happy; he loves socializing. He’s thrilled with the new toys you recently sent. He even set aside his beloved giraffe Jose to play with the new bunny. (Smiles.) Now the bunny is his new favorite, he is hugging it all day long. These might be small things, but they mean so much to me and they bring a lot of joy to our challenging life with Gio.
There are children for whom only small joys exist – playing in the courtyard, not getting serious illneses, bathing without struggles, and hugging new toys. Gio will never know a different life or experience other joys. But for us, it’s such a small thing – to provide him with everything he needs.
We can prolong Gio’s life by caring for him.
There are children for whom only small joys exist – to play in the yard, not to get pneumonia, to bathe without suffering, to hug a new toy. Also, medicines for a month, diapers, syringes for feeding. Gio will never know a different life and different joys. And for us, it’s such a small thing – to give him everything he needs.
Our problems are nothing if compared… Here are true misfortunes, in front of your eyes! Just thank the Lord for what you have. You are the happiest person in the world! Remember this and help those in need.
Unfortunately, problems of this and other families do not end here and now… Therefore, from time to time, look through the stories of unhappy people on our website, and talk to them. Every time you dial the Phone of an unhappy person, God is blessing you! For sure! Go on helping these families! This is the best service to the Lord!
