For three months now, Ketevan and her children have been sifting through ashes, hoping to find even a spoon or a plate that survived the fire, but alas, the fire consumed everything! In February 2023, a single spark left the Maziashvili family homeless, adding more problems to their already chaotic lives. Six people were left on the streets. All that remains from their once bitter life are charred walls and ashes…

“This room used to be a bedroom… and now it looks like a cave!”
– Ketevan, how are you doing now? David showed me the rooms and could barely hold back his tears!
Ketevan: There is nothing left of our home. I will never forget that dreadful day. We were at the funeral of our relative in another village. Giorgi didn’t want to come with us, he said he wasn’t feeling well. He chose to remain at home, and throughout the day, my heart was filled with a sense of unease. Giorgi, despite his age and height, is just like a little child. (Note: Georgiy has developmental delays. He is 15 years old.)
When our neighbor called me, I immediately asked if everything was alright with Giorgi, and I heard only those words, “Giorgi is alive, but…” When we arrived, the house was still smoldering… Giorgi was at the neighbors’ place. My Lord, I will never stop thanking You for leading him out of the house at that time! You saved my son! Because if it had been just a few more seconds, perhaps he wouldn’t have made it out, the roof would have collapsed right on him and buried my son under a pile of ashes! I simply have no words to express our state. I can’t even cry anymore. You can’t imagine, every little thing in this house was precious to us. We saved money for years to put our house in order, we even took a loan in 2014 and did everything with our own hands…
– Did they manage to determine the cause of the fire?
Ketevan: According to Giorgi, he felt cold and turned on the gas stove, which apparently was malfunctioning. In the evening, his neighbor called him, and when he went out into the yard, the fire seemed to spread within minutes. Does it matter now how it all happened? It doesn’t change the situation. We have no house anymore, but Giorgi is alive, and that’s what matters most. There’s no point in lamenting and crying. God saved us, and He will help us not to starve or freeze.
– Where are you currently living?
Ketevan: The state rented this space for us for 200 lari and allocated 5000 lari to cover the roof repairs. But this money is not nearly enough. As soon as we can raise the necessary amount with God’s help and yours, we will start fixing the roof and repairing the walls. Our income is the allowance we receive. I work as a cleaner and earn 200 lari per month, and my husband sometimes helps with local farms when they need help with grape harvesting. They pay very little there too. We can’t even afford to feed ourselves, let alone build a house right now!
“We have nothing left. Everything was brought by kind neighbors, friends, and relatives”
Giorgi (15-year-old): You know, I had my own room. I used to hide in there from everyone. But then nothing was left. I had books with fairy tales… I love fairy tales about “comble” and “Cinderella,” my mom used to read them to me. And sometimes I would read them myself too.
“I often come here, maybe I’ll find something?”- What do you miss the most from your previous life?
Nikoloz (11-year-old): I don’t know… I miss my room. I miss it a lot. And also I miss my ball and my phone – I had such a good ball.
– What were you dreaming about? How did you imagine your life?
Nikoloz (11-year-old): I wanted to become a football player… But now I don’t know what I’ll become. I thought I would start going to football practice, that my mom would buy me boots and a uniform. That I would play better than everyone else.
“It would have been good if I broke my leg playing football, but now how can I tell people that I fell from a tree? It’s embarrassing!”
– What happened to your leg?
Nikoloz (11-year-old): Don’t tell anyone… I fell from a tree. It would have been better to get injured while playing football, but it’s fine… the doctor said it will heal soon, but for now, I have to rest… and it’s hard for me to lie still and do nothing. There’s not even a TV to watch something interesting… so I spend the whole day staring at the ceiling!
“Now I don’t even have pencils and paper to draw with”
– What do you remember the most after the fire?
Nikoloz (11-year-old): I remember how the whole village helped us. How they comforted us and gave us clothes. How they brought warm blankets. It turns out that people are so kind! I will thank everyone when I grow up and start working! I want to help others just like Ronaldo. He was poor, but then became a millionaire and helps all the poor people!
“There used to be children’s clothes here… now they have turned into ashes”
Ketevan: If it weren’t for kind people, we probably wouldn’t even be alive. I thank them all, pray for them, but I also want to express my gratitude through you! They will all read our story, so I want to confess my love to them!
– Ketevan, what do you think you need the most right now? You have already endured the winter, so what is your main problem at the moment?
“Dear God, will we ever have good beds?”
Ketevan: We have money to fix the roof, but I can’t ask for big things. Maybe someone can help with dishes, clothes, beds… The children really need tablets and school supplies.
Nikoloz (11-year-old): And a bicycle! And a ball! And football boots!
Ketevan: And if God grants us the opportunity and we repair the roof, we will need windows and doors. I won’t mention food, but it’s so embarrassing to look everyone in the eye…
To give up or try to start from scratch? Will you help? They won’t be able to cope alone

Friends, the Maziashvili family has lost everything. Their home, belongings, everything they had earned through years of hard work—all was consumed by fire. They have nothing left. The spouses find themselves living under the open sky with their children, barely fitting in the limited space they have. They receive help from neighbors and acquaintances, but their conscience doesn’t allow them to solely rely on the kindness of others. They desperately need our support!
The Maziashvili family is in need of any assistance, the most basic necessities, as they essentially have to start their lives from scratch. Their immediate needs include food, utensils, construction materials, appliances, beds, a table, chairs, and tablets for the children. There is also a special request for a bicycle, ball, and football boots!*
You can visit them in person and provide them with all possible help. Their address is: Gurjaani District, village Bakurtsikhe

Nikoloz is overjoyed! He has a sports suit with Kvara’s number!
“When I put on the Kvaratskhelia’s uniform, I immediately start running fast and scoring goals,” says Nikoloz. “I asked for this uniform so that I could beat other kids. And I requested a TV with internet access so I can watch all of Kvaradonna’s games and not miss anything.”
“He’s absolutely crazy about his uniform, boots, and ball,” smiles his mom, Ketevan. “We didn’t have a single thing left after that terrible fire when our whole house burned down. We were in complete devastation.”
We would have been grateful for even old things just to get by. But these are the readers of the Fund! Our people are generous! You’ve given us a gas stove, a refrigerator, and beds! And all brand new! And you’ve fulfilled my son’s dream…
Nikoloz practices on his own. Maybe we should send him to football practice? Look how passionate he is!
Medea (14-year-old): I’ve been following you for a long time, you know? I read all the stories of the Fund on Facebook, empathized, and then rejoiced when you helped them. But I swear, I never even thought that we would one day be part of some project. Well, we had problems, but we had a home and food. It all became abnormal later – after the fire. We were all very worried, we wanted to cry all the time. And I reminded my mom about your Fund. I wanted you to comfort us and help us.
– Did we comfort you?
Medea: Super, you’re the best! I used to look at you from the outside, but after our tragedy, we found ourselves within your love. It is so warm, so pleasant, the readers are so kind! I really needed your kind words; I read what people wrote under the post every day, and it improved my mood.
For example, in my new bed, I fall asleep right away – it’s cozy and soft, and I remember that it’s your gift with love. Besides, it’s long, and I don’t have to curl up to sleep; I fit in it completely. Before that, we had two low children’s beds here, and when you lay down, you sank all the way to the floor. My mom and younger brother also could barely fit on the old bed. She always lay at the edge and was afraid of falling.
Nikoloz: “Nikoloz: ‘While my sister is not here, I can lie down”
Ketevan, Mom: My 4-year-old David has a severe form of autism, and he doesn’t sleep alone. Now, even though we sleep together, we get a good night’s sleep.
Mom Ketevan no longer sleeps on the edge. They fit on the new bed with David, and there’s still room.
Medea: The rented apartment is not like our own home; there were many things missing here because it’s the cheapest – 200 lari. During the summer, we drank warm water and sometimes ate spoiled lunches because we didn’t have a refrigerator. When you gave us one, our hardships ended. I missed cold water so much that I jumped for joy.
Medea: I can offer you cold water too; it’s ready. Well, I can freeze any food in the new refrigerator.
Medea: ‘It was Nikoloz watching TV; that’s why there are so many football-related YouTube searches.’
– Have you personally met anyone from our readers?
Ketevan: We knew that your readers visit different families, and we were delighted when they came to us too. A family from Tbilisi came, a couple with a little daughter – very open, friendly, and lovely people. Their daughter immediately ran to play with my David. But he doesn’t know how to communicate… The children were delighted; our guests brought so many things: chicken, sausage, pasta, buckwheat, vegetable oil, candies… That same evening, I cooked chakhokhbili on our new gas stove. And I baked homemade bread in the oven. During dinner, we talked about our guests and wished them good health, joy, and prosperity.
‘The soup cooked quickly; I used to struggle with the old stove. And the bread that comes out of this oven is so delicious!’
I also want to thank all the readers. We were in the hardest situation when we addressed your Fund; they even stopped our social assistance because we had to change several apartments. I couldn’t even afford simple oats…
And we entrusted ourselves entirely to you, felt safe. Grief-stricken, confused people need such a shelter, especially a family with four children. You are our shelter – you have given us support and joy. A huge thank you from my husband and me, and from my children.
– Nikoloz, when we first came to shoot your story, your leg hadn’t fully healed from the injury, and you had trouble walking. But now, does it hurt when you kick the ball?
Nikoloz (11-year-old): Hurt? Not at all! Just look at the number on my back – 77! I won’t disgrace this uniform. Kvaratskhelia never feels pain, and he never gets tired. I try my best too.
Nikoloz: “With this champion’s number on my back, I have no right to complain or get tired!”
He counts: “21, 22, 23…”
– The uniform suits you very well! I wish you always hit the target and win, not only in football but in other aspects of life. Ketevan, what’s the current situation with your burned-down house? Did the authorities try to help during the project?
Ketevan: Our local administration, with the approval of the Gurjaani district administration, provides us with old windows and doors left over from the school renovation. From the government, we received one-time assistance – a voucher worth 400 lari. But that doesn’t get us very far. We have many problems: what to eat, how to get medical treatment…
Right now, I’m very worried about the condition of my 4-year-old son, who has autism. Because of the tragedy that happened to us, because of the devastation, he was left without treatment. We don’t have the money to travel to the capital or see a qualified doctor. He still doesn’t talk; he just waves his arms aimlessly all day.
If anyone wants to and can help me with this, I will be grateful. I don’t know when we will be able to stand on our own feet, but right now, we will be grateful for any assistance.
In the Maziashvili family, two children have health issues – the older one, Giorgi, has intellectual disabilities, and the younger one, David, has a severe form of autism. The family currently doesn’t have their own housing. They only have the things we provided. We just wanted to share the work that has been done, but we are not putting a period on this story. Helping further is not only appropriate, but vital. Thank you for providing them with protection, comfort, and love.
If you have a heavy heart because of everyday problems or unresolved issues, as a distraction just see our posts on Facebook, or better call any of our beneficiaries, and all your problems will seem unimportant to you, compared with the problems of those to whom you helped in the most difficult moment of their lives.
Unfortunately, problems of this and other families do not end here and now… Therefore, from time to time, look through the stories of unhappy people on our website, and talk to them. Every time you dial the Phone of an unhappy person, God is blessing you! For sure! Go on helping these families! This is the best service to the Lord!
