These children were born in a cave-like basement with rats and keep living there. Not in a well-maintained basement, but in a real basement with rats. We can worry about other people’s children who are hiding in basements from a brutal war, and not notice our children in front of our face on our land… We cry and weep, worrying about the lives of children who can die from a bullet, and we don’t want to hear anything about those who die of cold and hunger in peacetime in Georgia.

Have a look at this photo, open it in full screen. See how they live. All the clothes are piled in one corner. Mom and children sit on the “bed”, here they all sleep.
Sorry for being rude, but I’m just overwhelmed with emotions! Perhaps, this story is one of the most terrible of all that we have told you in all this time.
They asked for help for many times, they asked as much as they could. They even took their children to local officials to prove that they weren’t lying, that they really had children, that Lizi was really sick, that it was true that they lived in the basement with rats and like rats… Even worse than rats. Do you think anyone has shown interest in them? You are right – no one!
Now let’s leave the emotions and tell you only dry facts.
Two-year-old Lile is hungry.
Tamuna: My husband and I have nothing of our own. All our troubles began from the day Lizy was born. She has a cleft palate and cerebral palsy. She can’t do anything on her own, she can’t even cry. She cannot walk, talk, eat on her own, she only groans and howls.
The poor girl can’t do anything on her own
After Lizi was born, all the money we earned was spent on her medicines and examinations. We couldn’t pay the rent and found ourselves in the street. It was cold, we wandered the streets looking for shelter. Lizi was just a baby, she cried… We knocked on all the doors, but when people found out that we had nothing to pay with, they did not let us in. The only person who allowed us to live in the basement is the holy woman Natela.
“We were going to stay here for a couple of days, we thought that the state would help with the rent, we thought we could settle everything in a few days. But those few days turned into an eternity. And we have been living here for four years!”
– Did you know Natela before that?
Tamuna: No. But not every parent will do so much for their child, as she did for us. She sheltered us, she takes care of us. She warms my children, we bathe at her place. When we have no food, she shares her food with us! She found a bed for us, gave us her warm blankets. She is our Guardian Angel! My children would die of cold and hunger without her! These are not just beautiful words, this is true.
Rats are all around. They are in clothes, in kitchenware…
It is simply impossible to keep this cave clean.
“There is no water. I bring it from the yard, I warm it in a bucket, and I bathe the children. I manage to bathe them very rarely. And there is not enough wood. Once, when it was very cold, we burned clothes … “
– So, you moved into this basement four years ago. Lile and Lela were born here?
Tamuna: Yes. We had only Lizi when we moved here. All funds were spent on her medications and doctors. We simply could not move into a rented apartment. And we can’t do it now either. Then on February 1, 2020, Lile was born – a healthy baby. And exactly one year later, also on February 1, Lela was born. She also seems to be healthy, but she grows in weight very slowly. She now weighs only six kilograms. We need to take her to the doctor for examination, but we have no money.
If you don’t give food to Lile, she may get sick not from hunger, but from crying.
Lela is already one year old, but she weighs only six kilos.
– What do you live on?
Tamuna: We get an allowance of 600 GEL. We spend a lot of money on diapers, all three children wear diapers. I try to save money, but it doesn’t work out very well. We also need medications for Lizi. And we need porridge – that’s it! Lile is the pickiest. If you do not feed her, she can cry and yell until she gets sick. My husband – Vephvia – takes on any job, no matter how hard it is. He may not sleep and not eat, but he will do everything for the sake of the children. He loves them very much. And the kids are crazy about him too. Lizi, Lile and Lela – it was he, who came up with such names for them.
Lizi, Lile and Lela are beautiful names for beautiful girls who live next to rats…
– How did you imagine your family life?
Tamuna: I was still a schoolgirl when we met over the phone. Vephvia let me graduate from school and then asked me to marry him. I said yes. But then it happened so that because of our daughter’s illness, we had to sell everything, but all the money raised still was not enough. We took her to doctors, went to Tbilisi.
– Have you addressed the authorities to help you pay the rent? It is impossible to live here. I can’t understand how did you manage to survive in this cave for four years?
Tamuna: When there is no other way out you get used to everything. We addressed them many times. They don’t even regard us as human beings, so what can we talk about? These rats have more rights than we do.
How is it possible to leave this God’s creation without attention? What kind of person should you be to close your eyes and ignore her?
– You can address our readers. What do you need first of all?
Tamuna: We need help in solving the problem with our housing. We beg if anyone can help us with this issue so we can get our rent covered. We will somehow handle the rest on our own. If we could only get out of this godsforsaken place. We will probably never be able to repay Natela’s kindness. All the gold in the world is not enough to pay for the kindness and understanding she demonstrated. It would also be good to bathe the children and dress them in clean clothes. Then take them to the doctors for examination. We only dream of a warm room, hot water, a bed, clothes, diapers, and porridge for children.
Now you know about them too, now we are responsible for them. Take action!

This is how a family perishes in a basement in peacetime. They are not afraid of bomb explosions, but of cold and rats. They die not from bullets, but from the indifference of those who are responsible. What else to write, what else to talk about? You saw everything yourself. Even if you do not read this text, the photos convey all the horror!
If anyone dares to visit this family and face up to the horror, here is their address: Abasha Municipality, village Norio (the former tractor plant building)
Every time you can help someone, just do it and rejoice that God answers someone’s prayers through you!
