Between life and death…

Margalita (64 years old): “Look at this enormous hump! I look like an 80-year-old woman, but I’m only 64. My back curved into this shape after a terrible accident. I can’t breathe without pain. And I’m so embarrassed.”.
This isn’t a home – it’s a living nightmare. A kind of hell where two women – a mother and her sick daughter – struggle to survive. Rotting floors. Cracked walls. A ceiling on the verge of collapse. It is dangerous even to breathe here.
In one terrifying moment, everything collapsed—an old wooden platform gave way beneath Margalita’s feet. She screamed in unbearable pain… and never got back up. She ended up with a spinal contusion and several broken ribs. She lay on the cold floor, unable to move. Next to her was her frail, ailing daughter – drained of strength and hope. Only tears and panic.
“Dear God, is this really how we’re meant to die?”
Their home is filled with silence, cold, and pain. Margalita is dying slowly in her own bed. “God, please just let me live until morning…” she whispers through tears. Every movement is like torture for her; every breath feels like a farewell.
Margalita has nothing – no medicine, no food, no chance. Her social allowance is only 120 GEL. That won’t even be enough to buy bread. And the woman needs an orthopedic bed and mattress to at least slightly ease her suffering. Margalita isn’t asking for much – she’s asking to live.
Margalita: “My stomach hurts from hunger. I’m so hungry, it cramps my whole body. But there isn’t even a piece of bread in the house.”
The mother and daughter have just one egg to share – and they thank God that they’re still alive.
Margalita: “People call me a beggar, but I’m not ashamed. Better to beg than to steal. I have to beg for alms around the village. I go from house to house in the village asking: ‘Kind people, do you have any food to spare?’ – And then I wait. One time, someone gave me a single egg. I came home, boiled it, and my daughter and I thanked God for keeping us alive.”
Margalita’s only daughter – her reason for living – is fading before her eyes… The young girl suffers severe terrifying anemia. She can hardly get out of bed – every movement comes with pain. But the most frightening thing isn’t the illness itself. It’s the realization that testing, treatment, and even hope are completely out of reach.
Huge cracks tear through the walls, as if splitting apart their last hopes for a better life. No furniture. No appliances. No bed.
No bath. Not even a toilet.
And yet, somehow, the house still stands.
The roof – barely. For the mother and daughter, every rain feels like a cruel punishment.
When it rains outside, it rains inside. The ceiling is rotten and could collapse at any moment. You might ask, how are they not afraid to live in a place like this? They are. But these kind, good women have nowhere else to go.
“Even a dog couldn’t survive in these conditions. And we’re living here.”
Margalita: “Even a dog wouldn’t live in a house like this. Please help us! Don’t leave us alone…”
Friends, your help is desperately needed. It’s a matter of survival. They urgently need medicine and food. Help this family repair their home – before it’s too late. Support them now, while they’re still breathing, while a flicker of hope still shines in their eyes.
If we stay silent…If we walk past… We will never forgive ourselves. Never. This is one of those moments – when your kindness can truly save a life.
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Kaspi Municipality, vilage Khandaki

Margalita: “I will be grateful to the Chernovetskyi Fund for the rest of my life. Not only because the Fund supported me at the most critical moment, but most of all because it helped me discover how many kind and godly people live in Georgia. This knowledge gives me the strength to keep living with faith and hope!”

YOU HELPED – THANK YOU!
Despite a severe hunchback caused by an accident, Margalita can now walk a little with a cane. Her daughter Eka, however, is so weak from anemia she can barely step past the threshold. But joy is powerful medicine and today, we brought them great joy.

Margalita’s face lights up with a smile as a skilled worker throws out rotten window frames and replaces them with brand-new, high-quality plastic ones.
All winter, this frail grandmother trembled from the cold. Snow and freezing winds came right into the house through cracked glass and broken frames. Did this poor woman really deserve such suffering?
Now, that’s all behind her. The workers have installed sturdy new windows and doors – and it’s all thanks to you, dear friends of the Fund!
Eka’s face regains color as she watches Fund staff carry in a table, chairs, a dresser, assemble new beds, and unpack a fridge and TV.
Eka, the daughter: “This morning I felt so sick, I thought I wouldn’t make it through filming. But you all came, and started smiling… The gifts really lifted my spirits. I feel better now.”

Margalita: “Eat, my daughter — it’ll give you strength. Look how much food kind people have given us. May God bless everyone who helped us so generously – so much so that not only the poor and needy greet you with joy and admiration, but even those who already have everything in life. May you be the fortunate ones – joyful and lucky. Wherever you go, may victory be waiting for you! Prosperity and well-being to you, golden-hearted people!”
A letter of gratitude from Margalita
In Margalita’s face, I see a faint resemblance to Meryl Streep – only with a tragic fate. Meryl suffers on screen, but our Margalita from the village of Khandaki endures real hardship.
The “Georgian Meryl” has a roof full of holes, and her belongings are ruined by rain. Spiders and mice crawl in through the cracks in the walls. The ground in front of the house has collapsed — you have to watch every step or you could end up in the ICU. This isn’t a movie script – it’s Margalita’s life.
And that hunchback? It wasn’t done by makeup artists – it was given to her by life itself. And it’s getting heavier by the day. Eka is fading from anemia… She suddenly stopped talking as she lay down on her new bed.
Eka needs an MRI and proper treatment, and her mother Margalita needs medication. They’re not spoiled by food, clothes, or even a washing machine to do their laundry. But they’re happy that we heard their silent, exhausted SOS in this vast sea of indifference – and that we’re rushing to help!
