From dawn until late at night, an 11-year-old boy hauls heavy scrap metal just to put food on the table. His father can no longer walk, and unless we step in to help with his surgery, he never will again.

Amiran, 11: “Dad can’t carry heavy things anymore, so I do it for him. I feel so bad for him. I just want him to walk normally again…”

It is impossible to read these words without a heavy heart. What’s most haunting is that he speaks with the weight of a grown man. Life has forced him to grow up far too soon.

You won’t find 11-year-old Amiran playing football after school. He’s not staring at a phone or running to the river with friends. Instead, he is scavenging through junkyards for scrap metal.

Old pipes. Rusted scraps.

Heavy chunks of iron that would make even a grown man’s back ache with pain.

Walking beside him is his father, Tamaz. But he can barely move.

He is only 31 years old, yet he walks like an old man.

There was a time when Tamaz worked 12-hour shifts at a car wash, traveling wherever the work was to provide for his family. Today, every single step he takes is pure agony.

This young man’s hip joints are completely destroyed. Doctors are certain: surgery can bring Tamaz back to a normal life. It can give him back his ability to walk, to work and  to be a father again – not just a helpless bystander to his own son’s life.

But the surgery costs 20,000 GEL. And as long as the money is missing, a child continues to haul iron instead of living his childhood.

For a full day’s work, father and son earn about 15 GEL.

That’s their bread.

That’s their dinner.

That’s their desperate attempt to survive another day.

Their home is literally falling apart, but they don’t even dream of repairs – survival is the only thing on their minds.

Eteri, 56: “My heart breaks every time I look at my son. He can barely walk. How much more can he take? He should be the one taking care of his child, but now his child is the one keeping him alive. I have no money for the surgery. Our only hope is the kindness of strangers. Please, help us.”

Tamaz, 31: “I just want to stand on my own two feet again and take care of my family…”

Friends, let’s put an end to this nightmare.

Let’s make sure this 11-year-old boy never has to scavenge for iron again, and that his father can finally hug him while standing on his own feet.
