“I’m Zakaria. I am 31 years old. I realize that I am a grown man, but I need my mom, as in the first years of my life. I am disabled, no matter how rude this word sounds. Yes, I am like this. I’ve been half-human for 10 years now. If not for my mother, I probably would not have been able to move at all. She makes me live. She wakes me up in the morning to do my exercises. I have no idea where she gets so much energy. She says to me: “I can do anything for you, but I cannot do exercises instead of you.” She has been enduring my bad temper for 10 years now. She endures all my failures. And my small victories are only her merit. The fact that I can stand, eat and speak on my own is all thanks to my mother. “

The kindest mom in the world!

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO THE WORK OF MERCY!

He is so handsome – handsome and kind! And so, so unfortunate!

“I am a grown man, but my mother looks after me like a baby.”

“Mom won’t let me die!”

Mom became his legs when he wasn’t able to stand, she became his arms when he wasn’t able to dress, she became his eyes when he didn’t see. She gave him life and keeps giving it to him now…

Zakaria does not like to talk about his sores. “Mom, tell them everything yourself,” – he asks his mother. Recalling all that happened still hurts him. When a stroke took away his speech, ability to walk and move, he just wanted to die. His mother didn’t allow him to die. She held on to him and did not let her son give up.

His young wife was the first who became unable to stand it: she took their one-year-old daughter and left. He did not even hold her… Not everyone can watch how a healthy and strong man suddenly turned into a weak child. He realized that he could not give his wife everything he promised to give her when they married. He let her go.

Then his dad left him… He could not stand, watching his son’s suffering, and his heart stopped beating. His friends, who at first were by his side and swore allegiance to him, eventually disappeared too… “I celebrated my birthday alone. But my mother was with me all day,” – says Zakaria sadly and asks his mother to roll him out of the room.

“Zakaria is very worried that his mother has to look after him like a small child.”

  – Maya, what happened to your son?

Maya: Stroke. He was operated on – it was craniotomy. As it turned out later, he had problems with blood vessels in his head. He was 21 years old then. Can you imagine how he felt? He didn’t want to live. As if nothing kept him here.

  – And what about his wife and child?

Maya: They got married when he was 19 years old. His wife was three years younger. They were too young… And three years later this tragedy happened. She couldn’t stand seeing her husband’s suffering and left one year later. I can understand her. She was young. And mom will never betray. Mom will always be by him. Zakaria worried a lot, but then he stopped.

  – Was his condition critical?

Maya: Oh, he was almost completely paralyzed. He could not speak, move, eat. He couldn’t even recognize me. This was the worst thing. I asked him a million times: “Who am I, who am I? Son, please recognize me…” We sold everything of value we had. We sold everything. All the money were spent on my son’s rehabilitation: massages, exercises, psychological assistance. And when he started to show hope, when he got better, the money ran out.

“I don’t want to believe that my son will stay crippled forever just because we don’t have money,”

– What effect has rehabilitation brought to your son?

Maya: He started to regain his memory, he began to move his hands, to stand up. But the most touching and unforgettable thing was when he said to me: “Mom, how can I not remember you?” And I realized that I would do my best not to stop these exercises. I’ll do anything! But after my husband died, I lost all strength. He did not care about his health. It was very hard to lift our son and put him in a wheelchair. He tore his back, he started having heart problems because of constant stress. And then he developed peritonitis. He told no one that he was in pain, that he had a fever. And we lost him…

  – Maya, how do you manage to find strength within yourself after everything you had to go through?

Maya: I cannot betray my son. I cannot leave him halfway to recovery. I know that he will be able to walk on his own – with crutches, with a stick, but he will be able to stand on his feet. We do exercises every day, every single day!

“Well done, son. I taught you to walk once, when you were one year old, and I will teach you again”

– Could you please tell me about your daily routine? What do you do in the morning, afternoon, evening?

Maya: Zakaria wakes up at 10 o’clock. Then we dress and wash. Then we do exercises for an hour. It takes lots of energy from both me and my son. Then we have breakfast. He can do it alone in 20 minutes. He eats with his left hand because his right hand has not recovered yet. Then he goes to toilet. Then I put him in the wheelchair, give him a book, leave a bun and tea on the table for him. And I take my vacuum flask and rush to the marketplace to sell tea and coffee. At 8 o’clock I’m already at home. Sometimes I earn 5 GEL, sometimes 10, it depends. I bring medications and food. And then the evening routine starts: exercise for another hour, then having meals, going to the toilet and then going to bed. At 12 o’clock we are already asleep.

“Trust me baby. I managed to put you on your feet once, I can do that again”

  – And how does he cope alone when you are not at home?

Maya: He reads a book or watches TV. If not very tired, he does exercises using simulators. His biggest dream is to take me in his arms. And I tell him that there is no need to take me in his arms, it’s better to dance at his wedding… We are joking, of course. We encourage each other.

“The hardest thing is to be alone with your thoughts. When my mother is not by me, it feels like I’m without air”

“Even watching TV without mom is not interesting. And when we are together, we can even look at it when it is turned off.”

– Maya, why did you address the Chernovetskyi Fund?

Maya: I have only one request. I need funds for my son’s rehabilitation. One day of full rehabilitation in the balneological center costs 150 GEL. Our pension and allowance will only be enough for three sessions. Can you imagine how absurd the situation is?

I won’t be able to even save that amount. And these procedures will improve his condition. Just imagine – procedures in sulfuric waters, professional rehabilitation therapists, masseurs, doctors. If he does the exercises at least every other day for 2-3 months, I’m sure my son will stand on his feet!

“This is the result of 15 procedures. Can you imagine what will happen in 2-3 months of intense exercises?”

  – Don’t you need anything else besides rehabilitation? It’s cold at home. How do you heat here?

Maya: Our only gas stove went out of order. We heat somehow… We can stand it now, but what will happen in winter – I do not know. We really need a gas heater.

Mom’s warmth won’t be enough to survive the harsh winter

YOUR LOVE PUT MY SON ON HIS FEET!

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN!  HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO THE WORK OF MERCY!

Maia: “Thank you for my son! He’s changed a lot – he believes in himself

“It’s like I was born again. There’s a big difference between old Zakro and the current one, – Zakaria says about himself smiling. – Zakro, you knew before the project, was a closed, disappointed, unhappy person. God forbid he should ever come back. And the new Zakro is more active, more confident, and he, well, I mean me, has dreams and goals.”

Mama Maia blossoms from these words of her son, hugs him tightly and kisses him. Then she hugs me and the cameraman – for all of you, dear readers! “You see, we managed to do that! – says Maia. That’s why I addressed the Fund – to give my son hope, to lift him out of his wheelchair.

Mama Maia can’t get enough of the “new” Zakro. She’s ready to kiss everyone who helped her son!

We did it! Zakaria, who spent many years in a wheelchair after a stroke at age 21, can now walk 3 meters on his own with a walker.   Then he takes a break – and then walks again! It is just the beginning! This is what happens when you give a person love and care.

– Zakaria, how well you are doing steps! You make us so happy!

Zakaria: If you only knew how happy I am to be able to step firmly on one foot and then the other! I’m sick to death of being chained to a wheelchair.

I can walk three meters five or six times holding on to the bars, then I need to rest, and then I can do some more. Then that’s it – my legs get really strained. But before rehab I never even dreamed of doing what I do now. I was only doing squats, and then I sat in the wheelchair and could only stand up on my toes. I was getting tired very quickly. Now I can work out on the exercise machine after a walk. The Fund supported me a lot – from the first day my mother addressed them, I feel the attention.

Holding on to the bars, Zakaria can walk five or six times, back and forth!

And after that he can do squats!

– What would you say to those people who helped you?

Zakaria: I read all the Facebook post comments and cheered silently. There were such strong, warm words of encouragement! They lifted my spirit. When my mom and I went to the balneotherapy center, I was in seventh heaven. I haven’t seen people for many months, I was just watching TV. And there are other people, attention, treatment… Nothing would have changed without you. Thank you for saving me so many times! I am very grateful!

The “old” Zakaria was sad and sullen, but the “new” one has a very beautiful smile!

– Maya, I won’t bore Zakaria with questions. How did his treatment go?

Maia: We were supposed to do exercises, take sulfur baths, electrostimulation, and yoga during rehabilitation. That is a great gift that the readers of the Fund gave us. The treatment course lasted for two months. The results are so good! I can see him every day and I can notice even the smallest changes. He has progressed a lot, but of course the treatment is not over yet. We must keep going…

Apart from that, we received medication from the Fund. Zakro needs it for proper blood circulation. Especially in spring… You helped us with food when we were starving and during the pandemic. You have proved a hundred times that we can rely on you in every way. Right now, we got a microwave oven and a mixer from the Fund, and you have no idea how much they helped me!

“I’m starting a new business – the microwave will help me!”

– Oh, tell me more!

Maia: I sell tea and coffee at the marketplace near the Station Square. Now it’s a time when sales are not going well. I want to offer something new to customers so that I do not return home empty-handed. I want to add cupcakes to my coffee and tea. I get to the market by 1pm (after I finish everything with Zakro), and by that time people have already had lunch, but a light snack will work. I’ll bake them at home The mixer and microwave will help me. And my son and I will have baked goods as well.

“It’ll go faster with cupcakes”

“That mixer will feed us!”

 – You’re doing a great job of keeping your head up!

Maia: Even those who keep heads up need help. My son needed rehabilitation for so long, and I couldn’t pay for it. One person can’t do everything in the world. I only brought food. In winter we used to freeze because we didn’t have a stove. But this winter was different. Both Zakro and I have never caught a cold or fallen ill, and we have spent all the winter months warm thanks to the gas heater. God bless you all!

This winter Zakro and his mom Maia spent warm and cozy

With the gas heater no one caught cold or got sick

When I know my son is better, my mood is different. I want to style my hair and go to work like this. And my eye expression has completely changed. Although my job hasn’t changed, and selling at the marketplace isn’t easy, don’t worry about me. I am okay. Thank you for my son. You gave him back his confidence. For his smile, which I see more often now, and for every step he takes, I want to kiss you all and press you to my heart.

“There’s a mood to take care of myself, too.” What a sweet and beautiful woman Mama Maya is, and how much joy suits her!

You have encouraged him so much that he has begun to dream of studying, of entering University. He says he’s interested in architecture. He’s getting ahead of himself, he’s driving me crazy (laughs). One thing is certain – after the rehabilitation course he is thinking more clearly, although there are still problems with his memory.

“Now my son is thinking more clearly, he’s walking a little bit. We want to finish what we started…”

– Did the local authorities offer you any help during the project?

Maia: None of that. If they had asked, I would have told them how many things we needed.

– Better tell us, what else can we do to help you?

Maia: I was so inspired by your help, and I really saw what the treatment could do, that I dream of seeing it through. Every day I imagine that my Zakro will be able to take care of himself, that there will be less suffering in his life. There is another course of treatments at the balneological center (injections, etc.), that the doctor recommended to us. But it all comes down to funds.

I am concerned about the fact that my son has no communication. We live in a place where even the neighbors’ houses are not close to us. I go to work, and my son is alone all day long. He doesn’t even have a phone to call anyone. The only time my son can get online is when I get home from work – he uses my old phone, which always runs out of battery. It saddens me that he hasn’t gotten rid of the isolation yet…

 ***

Zakaria is still very young, he’s only 32 years old! I so wish he had more joy in his life. Of course, for him the greatest happiness, the greatest wish is to walk by himself. With your help, friends, this day can come sooner.

If you have a heavy heart because of everyday problems or unresolved issues, as a distraction just see our posts on Facebook, or better call any of our beneficiaries, and all your problems will seem unimportant to you, compared with the problems of those to whom you helped in the most difficult moment of their lives.

Our problems are noting if compared… Here are true misfortunes, in front of your eyes! Just thank the Lord for what you have. You are the happiest person in the world! Remember this and help those in need.
