The main breadwinner in this unfortunate Georgian family is 11-year-old Sandro.
When there is absolutely nothing to eat and his little brother and sister begin to whimper, the main breadwinner in the family goes to work: he collects scrap metal and cans. And if he’s lucky, he can find a bag of bread left near the wheelie bin, which kind people did not throw away, but hung up nearby for hungry dogs… or children.

He is eleven. His most cherished dream is to dance Georgian dances. They told him many times: “You got talent”. But every day his dreams get smashed against dirty garbage cans…
Sandro eagers to grow up quickly so as not to rummage through the slops, but to start working like any other adults. But they don’t hire him – either to a construction site or as a loader. “You are too little”, – that’s what they say. They don’t care that the little ones can also be hungry, that the little ones also have to take care of their loved ones – they just do not understand that.
Nor do those who are obliged to understand, who promised to take care of them, who said that children – are future of the country and it is necessary to protect them. Protect them from whom? – that is a question. Protect from what?
“I have no time to sit around, I have to bring food for them!”
Sandro (11-year-old): It’s not hard for me to work, sure I really could. In my opinion, I am a strong guy and could work at a construction site. It’s not a big deal to collect a scrap metal and cans. There is no other way out. Daddy cannot work. He fell off the horse and broke his leg. Since then, our life has become very hard.
– So, you used to live well when your father was healthy?
Sandro: Yes! He is a shepherd. He used to work a lot. Do you know what a hard and responsible job it is? He taught me, too, that if you don’t work nothing will work out. And so, he fell off his horse and laid for a year, unable to move. Mom looked after him like he was a baby. When he got up with crutches, we started to collect scrap metal together. That’s it. Let’s go, I will show you something.
– May I talk to your mother first, please?
Sandro: Okay, but she’ll not tell you a lot – she is embarrassed because of our situation.
“I know that some moms are in even more difficult situation than we are, but we are on the verge of death right now”
Eteri: Probably you have already heard the things I am going to tell you many times. The problems of my family and my pain are very similar to the stories of unhappy families I read at your Fund’s page. How can I surprise you?
– Eteri, the reason we came here was not to get surprised. We came here to meet you and to tell the entire Georgia what hard time you are experiencing.
Eteri: Well, we never lived richly, but when my husband worked, we never starved. And as Sandro has already said, Edisher, our dad, broke his leg. That’s it…
– So, you were left without livelihood?
Eteri: Not only livelihood – but we also lost support and hope. You know, life is much easier, when you are by a man who is as safe as houses. But after the injury, Edisher was unable to move. I fed him, took him to the toilet, I looked after him like he was a baby. As for money, or rather, lack of money, well… The house, when you don’t maintain it, literally falls apart.
“Yesterday a huge piece fell off the wall! Be careful! Don’t approach there!”
– What means did you live on? Do your parents or relatives help you?
Eteri: My mom and dad used to support us a lot. It is only their merit that we are still alive. They live in a countryside, so they send us vegetables, cereals. We had no money left to buy food – it all was spent on treatment and medications.
– For how long did it last?
Eteri: For more than two years, until Edisher became able to use crunches. It hard for him to walk even now, but together with Sandro they do everything they can.
– You asked only for foodstuffs when you addressed our Fund.
Eteri: It’s true. I know there are many people who live in harder conditions than we. But it is really hard for me now. I have no other way out – hunger made me address good people for help. We need everything! But we need foodstuffs the most! I can’t even imagine how it feels to fall asleep without thinking about where to get food for your children tomorrow… We also need beds, at least some chairs and a wardrobe.
– Is it your house?
Eteri: We rent this house, or rather this space for 100 GEL. It very cold here in winter and is extremely hot in summer. All sorts of fleas get inside through the cracks – they bite children. The roof leaks. It blows heavily. Not only this house is cold by itself, we also don’t heat it properly to save firewood.
“We hold the roof with bricks”
– Well, you said that your only income is a social allowance.
Eteri: Yes, 360 GEL.
– So, if you pay 100 GEL for rent, then…
Eteri: Are you surprised? What 260 GEL can be enough for when there are three hungry kids and one sick man in the family? My heart breaks when Sandro tells me: “Don’t be afraid, mom, I will bring some food”.
“I am already adult, it’s time for me to work!”
– He is a real man!
Eteri: It’s a big pain. He doesn’t know what a childhood is. It hurts me to see how he spends the most carefree years of his life helping us. It is so unfair.
Sandro: Oh, you started it again! Mom, please stop! I have already told you that it is not hard for me. When Ilia grows up, he will also help us. But well, I wish he didn’t have to do this.
– Sandro, what are you dreaming about?
Sandro: I don’t know. I want to save money and buy a bicycle for me and toys for Ilia and Elene.
– I’d like to ask you one thing: do you like going to school?
Sandro (interrupts me): I love going to school. It is nice and interesting place. I have one friend there, his name is Gio.
– You did not let me finish. I’d like to ask you whether you like someone at school.
Sandro: I have no time for girls! I have to help my family. Although, I confess, there is one pretty girl. I really like her, but I haven’t met her yet. I really have no time for that, don’t look at me this way!
– Okay, okay. Tell me about Ilia and Elene. They look somewhat taciturn.
Sandro: They are like twins. They are always together. Look how funny they are sitting. Take a picture of them quickly! It rarely happens that they sit so calmly.
– Are they mischiefs?
Sandro: Ilia is very disobedient, and my sister is nice, she’s obedient.
– Are your mom and dad obedient too?
Sandro: Yes, they are! When I grow up, I would like to be a parent like them!
Elene (4-year-old): I am little! I can’t talk.
Little Elene having big problems.
Eteri: Elene speaks very badly; Ilya is not in hurry to talk either. He is silent. Although he will go to school in September. Oh, I forgot to tell you: Elena was operated on her larynx recently. She had a cyst, which doctors removed. Thanks God, everything went well.
– You often mention the God in our conversation.
Eteri: I only hope for His mercy. I know he will not let us just starve to death! To be honest I was embarrassed to ask you for help. I told myself: “Many people live worse than we do. What should mothers of sick children do?” But then it dawned on me: maybe your Fund is the salvation which I ask the God for? Isn’t it a way how He helps us? Through good people.
– You are right, Eteri! The fact that you are starving, that you do not even have money for the most basic medications, and that your 11-year-old son has to look for food in the trash cans is not your fault! We choose rulers who must take care of those who can no longer take care of themselves!
Eteri: I’m not asking to “pull” me forever. When my husband gets back on his feet, we will become able to keep ourselves. I don’t need anything else!
“Please, save my children! I don’t ask for myself!”

Three little angels, who never saw the better life. They never had their own home; they have no idea what a secure life is. They starve, they have no toys, their dad is sick. Every morning when they wake up, they expect the world around them to change. But alas, everything remains as dull as it used to be. It’s in our power to give these little kids a normal childhood. It’s in our power to change their world. Children should not eat slops!
Friends, I urge you not to be indifferent. As you can see the Niparishvili family lives in an extreme need. We can’t pass by! They need foodstuffs, furniture, home appliances, clothes. Let’s help them, let’s show them our mercy, let’s give their children a chance to live normally. Let each of us imagine that these could be our children who are malnourished, and sleep on a collapsing beds in a cold house.
You can visit Eteri and her wonderful children yourself and provide them all possible help. Their address is: Kaspi, 34 Javakhishvilis Str.
All together we will manage to change their life!

I am happy that my brother and sister aren’t hungry anymore.
REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO THE WORK OF MERCY!
Eleven-year-old Sandro seems to be a grown man, when he happily looks at his brother and sister. They joyfully jump on a brand-new mattress.
“Hey presto! Ilia, move over so that I don’t jump on your head!” – Elene shouts. “It is so soft and new! I want to hug it!” – says Ilia and starts rolling around the mattress. Sandro is happy that tonight the children will sleep sweetly on a soft bed. And he… He is happy only when Elena and Ilia are well – they are not cold, not hungry, they are not sick.
“So cool! Today we will sleep in a soft bed”
“Children, did you finish jumping? Let’s stop! And let’s make the bed nice”
Poverty made him grow up early and filled his head with adult thoughts. He looks at the donations made by kind people (new clothes, a new refrigerator full of food) and thinks for how long will it be enough for his family? For how long will babies go to sleep full. It’s good that good people exist. It’s good that he’s so happy today. He will not eat much, just a little bit of sweets, and he will save a hundred times more for Elene and Ilia so that the kids will have enough yummies for a long time. Or he won’t eat at all, he’s already a big boy. The elders must take care of the little ones.
“Hooray, there are a lot of cookies, it’s enough for everyone”
“One for you, one for me, one for Sandro. And for mom, and for dad!”
The Niparishvili family lives in Kaspi in dire need. They have absolutely nothing of their own, leave alone housing.

– Eteri, how did your life change after we have published an article about you?
Eteri (mother): First of all, I want to thank every person who took our misfortune to heart and put themselves in our place. I was so embarrassed to talk about it out loud, but poverty became unbearable for us… Children often fell asleep hungry. The adults can stand that, but what about babies?
Thanks to everyone who has taken care of us. As a result, we got food, a gas stove, a refrigerator, a mattress, a table and chairs. We needed each of these things so badly. Children were sleeping on a hard sofa. We didn’t even have a chair to sit at the table and have lunch properly. Although we could not even dream about it – lately even lunch has become a dream for us…
“Mommy, let’s cook yummies! I will help you”
– Did any strangers respond? Have you got new friends?
Eteri: A very kind and merciful man from Gori visited us and brought us quite a lot of food. When the children saw it, they shouted with joy: “Mom, he brought us bread!”
Sandro (11-year-old): He also gave us a rabbit. I named him Red Eye. It’s a buck. Someday I will get a doe and I will breed rabbits.
– Sandro, did you come up with this idea yourself? Or did someone advise you?
Sandro: I came up with it myself. But I will never slaughter Red Eye, I love him very much. He is my friend!
– Do you have friends others than Red Eye?
Sandro: Yes, my neighbors, my classmates. I make friends with many children, but my best friend is Nika. I love riding bicycle, but I don’t own one and my friends lend me their bicycles. I dream to have a bicycle, but… I will probably never have it – it is too expensive.
– Sandro, what present did you like the most?
Sandro: The table and chairs, they are very beautiful. I do not have a desk to study, so I will also do my homework at this table. Wait, I’ll show you how will I do my homework. Come on.
Sandro: Oh, are they still here? (Lovingly points to the babies.) First, let Ilia and Elena eat their fill of sweets, and then I will show you. Okay?
“They are very tasty, but I won’t eat much. I should leave some for later!”
“Today we are very happy children! Is it okay if we will be naughty?!”
– But you can’t go to school yet. Why?
Eteri (joins our conversation): We used to rent a house, and when we became unable to pay rent, we moved here. Our relative sheltered us for a while. The school is quite far from here and we don’t have money for transport to take them to school. Besides that, Sandro has no proper clothes and shoes.
Sandro: I can’t attend online classes because I have neither computer nor a smartphone. I love studying, I love school.
– I know you love dancing. And you’re doing pretty well.
Sandro: I was about to get diploma in dance. Our team goes to Bakuriani for four days. But I won’t be able to go – we don’t have money…
Eteri: My son is very smart and talented, he has good abilities, but we cannot create conditions for him. Is this life?
– Sandro, what do you want to become when you grow up?
Sandro: A policeman. I will catch criminals. In the meantime, I want to start doing karate to become strong and dexterous so that no one can defeat me. When I become a police officer, I will have a good salary and my brother and sister will never be hungry. I will also be happy.
– Sandro, what is happiness?
Sandro: Happiness is when you have food, when your tummy does not hurt, and your hands do not freeze. When Elene and Ilia are not hungry and don’t cry.
– Eteri, what did your babies like the most? Can I talk to them?
Ilia (6-year-old): I liked the mattress and cookies. The cookies were very tasty. I kept asking my mom to buy me cookies.
Elene (4-year-old): I liked the big fridge – you can put a lot of food there. When I grow big, I will buy a lot of baked goods and put them there.
“What a big fridge! But it is for children too, it has a handle at the bottom so that I can reach it.”
– Elene, you don’t go to kindergarten, but do you help your mother at home?
Elene: I want to help her, but she tells me: “You are still little, go and play.”
– Do you play with your dolls? Would you introduce me to your dolls?
Elene: I have no dolls… When I will have, I’ll call her Barbie and put her to sleep with me on a new mattress so that her back won’t hurt.Do you know how bad it is when your back hurts?! It’s so bad when your back hurts.
“This is how sweetly I will sleep now!”
– Edisher, how do you feel? I see it’s still hard for you to walk.
Edisher (father): I still managed to do something until this misfortune happened to me. I used to take any part-time job to at least buy some bread for my children. I was paid very little, but I could somehow keep my family with my hard work. I also have a deep psychological trauma – I can’t do anything and it’s hard for me to come to terms with this. We need support until I get back on my feet.
– Your wife takes care of you – she loves you very much.
Edisher: Before we got married, we were in love for a year and a half. I kidnapped her after she graduated from the ninth form. Well, kidnapping is not the right word. She could not live without me either. (Smiles).
Eteri: We have been together for many years standing shoulder to shoulder for better or for worse…
Edisher: We never had much joy. The only joyful days are birthdays of our children.
– Eteri, did any of the local authorities respond to our post? Did they help you in any way?
Eteri: No one responded. Our dream is to have one small room of our own. We have changed seven rented apartments. We paid 100 GEL for rent. But, when your social allowance is only 360 GEL, it is hard to pay 100 GEL for rent! We often had to move due to non-payment. Now we have been sheltered for a while. I don’t know what will happen next… We live like nomads.
– Would you like to say something to those people who extended a helping hand to you?
Edisher: We are very grateful to you for your kindness. We want to thank strangers who took our situation to heart. It is very generous of them to think of others while living in this poor country where everyone has endless problems. Thank you, guys, for brightening up our day!

Friends, the problems of this family do not end with this little help. As far as you see, they still need a lot. Children miss yummies and sweets! They have no clothes, shoes, toys! They do not have the necessary conditions for development! And their father is still powerless and can do nothing. Why should an 11-year-old boy dream of his brother and sister eating their fill? Why do not children go to school because there is no money for transportation and clothing?
Lord, help all the kids, give them a happy and carefree childhood! Friends, let’s look at the big picture and see the tears of these kids! Let us not allow poverty to take away from them their most beautiful years, called childhood! Let’s unite once again for the sake of Sandro, Elene and Ilia and protect their childhood! Let’s give them a smile and happiness.
